Seconded on New Order and Primal Scream. If you don't know where to start with New Order, pick up Substance - well worth the money and it'll give you a taste of what's what, it's got the hits: Blue Monday, Confusion, Temptation. Good stuff, all-in-one package.
With Primal Scream, no record collection is complete without Screamadelica imo. It's a near perfect album and it's so so good! XTRMNTR is also good, very hard, and very charged.
I can't let this thread go without a high recommendation of The Verve's A Storm In Heaven. It's brilliant, lush, ethereal - it's such a good album, so many incredible songs you can get lost in, they take you to another place. It's one of my favorite albums of all time.

I already own almost every New Order album, and I already have a few primal scream albums too. I must say that my favorite New Order albums would have to be substance, singles (94), get ready and waiting for the siren's call. My favorite primal scream would have to be screamadelica and vanishing point.

Hey - not been here for a week - just recovered from glasto.
@prochem - nice one for getting into the charlatans. there are two best of's ,"Melting Pot" released about 5 years ago when they left their first label and "The very best of" released last year which is a singles collection. Melting pot is more of a collection of stuff they were proud of, including Patrol with the Chems.
@ Ben and @ mx - the idea was to talk about other bands you got into or tried to get into thru listenin to the chems and no pretending either.
I realise i am bit behind here but as i said i was in a field for a week
