Yo, TCB is my favorite group. I'm actually quite new to electronic music in general, and I'd like to find some more, because I want variation and I don't want to just burn out on these guys - they're perfect. Other electronic music I listen to includes the usual Fatboy Slim, Prodigy, and some other things like Bassnectar and Tipper (but I'm looking for things more along the lines of TCB and the other two mentioned before). Any recommendations you can give me area greatly appreciated. Bands, compilations, whatever is good.

Hit me up on AIM (devourthekitten), Yahoo (myintestines), or MSN (myintestines@yahoo.com) if possible; I use those much more than forums...

Hi xdankstahx

Try a listen to the following albums:

Simian Mobile Disco - Attack Decay Sustain Release

Underworld - Beaucoup Fish

Daft Punk - Homework

The Crystal Method - Vegas

Soulwax - Nite Versions

Orbital - Orbital 2

Leftfield - Rhythm & Stealth

Propellerheads - Decksanddrumsandrockandroll

Unkle - Psyence Fiction

Basement Jaxx - Rooty

Lemon Jelly - '64 - '95

Deadmau5 - Random Album Title (though more trance-like than the Chems)

and possibly Junkie XL - Radio JXL: A Broadcast From the Computer Hell Cabin

I actually haven't heard the whole of the last album--just a few tracks off it I really liked, including Breezer. :)

Also, if you're looking for something a little bit more mellow, Sasha - Airdrawndagger.

Wow, Consolidated! I believe you're the first to mention them here on the boards, prochem! Their album Business of Punishment is great. Very loud and industrial - love the song Butyric Acid and the "meat meat meat, hardy har har it's good for you and good for me, goddamn it now!" song.

That said I think you guys got xdankstahx off to a good start with the recommendations. If he ever comes back... :)

A suggestion that I would give to anyone who says they're a big fan of the Chems but new to the genre should perhaps also look further than suggestions of bands that are in the same vein because the list just goes on and on and on. Suggestions are great and broaden your musical horizons, but as seeking music out goes, so many great discoveries are happened upon by chance and circumstance anyway. Don't be afraid to look on the mighty interweb and give a listen to some of the folks the Chems have worked with. Try listening to who they've remixed. And discover who they've sampled... Read interviews and see what their influences were then and what they are now. Go out and buy Brothers Gonna Work It Out and download some dj sets like Live At The BBC and listen to what they play in their dj sets. I mean... a lot of these "suggestions" I have are vague and music wise not a carbon copy of the Chemical Brothers' sound at all, but I think these collabs, remixed artists, samples and songs they play in their sets are important to who the Chems are as a band. I mean, it's all out there. And a lot of it is mentioned here in all these threads preserved over the better half of a decade on this messsageboard.

One thing leads to another and it'll all come together. Eventually.

Good luck with the quest!

Many thanks, guys. The recommendations should keep me busy for a few months, I really appreciate it. I believe I'll listen to some of these if/when I robotrip while watching Alice in Wonderland tonight...it should be nice.

And to add to the Metallica thing: fuck them. :D

You can say what you want about the Mets' fans but not about the band !

I'll simply say that every single time I see them or hear any of their music (post And Justice for All), I get the urge to laugh.

And then I do. Heartily.

You can say anything you like about Metallica, they're just a bunch of old guys frustrated that they can't be in the NFL.

OK, the mets are old (is 45 years old old ?) now and their last albums aren't worth anything but you can't put their old stuff away ! They began as a four-membered thrash metal garage band, at the beginning, they didn't really care about money (at least, they were much fond of music)...damn, Cliff Burton is part of those rock genius' who died too young.

St Anger is bullshit, but Kill'Em All or Master Of Puppets are masterpieces ! I think I'd pu them in your recommendations list ! :D

Sigh...I went through a Metallica phase for about a month when I was eleven...the last thing I'm going to do is revisit that. :P
