The venue: Really liked the layout reminded me of a maze. But way to way to over crowded with nowhere to sit.
The other djs: Didnt see to many other people, was impressed by Viatalic, sounded different from there album and was quite pumping, Mekon was also enjoyable playing EBW7 when I we arrived on the dance floor.
The Chems set: Opened playing the 'mind bending chemicals' sample, soon following into STA, other tracks included 'Return Of The Original Art Form', 'Higher', 'liaisons dangereus', 'my spine is the bassline', EBW6, OOC, OOC/FIFI, 'Beutiful', 'Miserable Girl' and UTI. I think the set was the best dj set Ive seen them play, the mixing was good in my opnion with a good selection of tracks which was mainly techno but branching into breaks and house.
The new tracks: Towards the beginning there was a track that appeared to be new, sounded quite tribal house with lots of precussions. The animal song was also played and seems to of been developed further from NYE, at the moment I cant remember it in my head to describe but hopefully it will come to me. Another new track which I liked and which was also played on NYE had a vocal/sample saying 'these chemicals are good these chemicals are bad', at the time I was really digging this. Another track that may of been a new chems tracks which sneaker said to me that mips had mentioned in the past as the Galloping horse track was also played, had some weird high pitch squeels looping for a little while before a pound beat was dropped in. At the end of the set there was also a new track played which I would also say had a tribal house feel. My memory is fadeing allready so hopefully we had here more next week of these unlifting new tracks. I think the ground reaction was genrally good to these tracks, seemed to get people jumping about alot.
Other: Was cool hanging out with you all, sneaker & dave, Tom and Paddy, Mike, also bumped into camsha who seemed like a good lad. Briefly said hello to Ed on his way to the booth. After I spoke to Tom briefly, he seemed happy and excited about the new tracks that had been played. Also spoke to Erol Alkan who was also in the crowd.
Off to bed now, photos will come later.

Last night was wicked, it felt different from NYE due to so many factors, and I can quite happily have the 2 memories together without comparing them. I will compare Surface To Air, which wasn't as good this time but only because it was such a moment on NYE, one I'll never forget and probably never top. The animal song is a full track now, loads of different elements and chemical noise all over - top stuff. I believe Tom mentioned to Rich that it won't be the battle weapon though, it's not quite finished and they wanna tweek the details a bit. That might be crap, it was Rich he spoke to, not me! :) The track at the end of the set that Rich was trying to describe must be a new Chems track (there is always doubt in a DJ set though), it's got all the chemical hallmarks and sounded really sweet. I would exactly call it tribal, but I can see why Rich did. It's got a kind of Come Inside groove to it, but with lots of squeeky-bleepy synth lines and a huge fat bass. They closed the set with Out Of Control, which was amazing, had me flashing back to Brixton and I was going off big time :D
I think that "chemicals good, chemicals bad" track is a bootleg-type dubplate rather than a new Chems track, but I guess we'll have to wait and see on that one. I don't think that "galloping horse" track is a Chems track either, if it is, it's really different from previous productions. Seems a bit too heavy and techno, but again, we wait and see if I'm right or wrong on that one. They played a track about a third of the way through that had a massive siren in it, and it broke down to just the siren, then the bass came back in - wicked track! Sounded really vintage Chems DJ sets - the sort of thing I'd have expected at Bugged Out! or something back in the day.
Near the beginning, they played that track which has the same beat as It Doesn't Matter, I can't remember a lot else about it other than it had a vocal of some kind and the crowd were loving it (including me). I think they played it at NYE, but I can't remember that either. My memory sucks :'(
One thing I noticed that I think only added to the vibe was the fact that for 90% of the set, both of the brothers were up front, sometimes even simultanously DJing with one on the mixer, one on the decks. My memory of NYE is that this didn't happen so much, it was almost like a Tom vs. Ed DJ event, whereas Fabric was more like The Chemical Brothers DJing, doing it in pairs and rockin' the crowd. Again, could be my sucky memory but it's something I noticed during the set.
Kind of a shame that it wasn't as huge a forum meetup at NYE but I think I was a bit spoiled by that. Not all DJ sets/live gigs can be NYE, it's gonna take me a bit to realise that. However, where it worked really well at Turnmills, it was just too busy at Fabric and we'd have got split (I kept losing Rich & Sneaker throughout the set as people shuffled about). I remember the comments you guys had when you went to Fabric on Dec 30th, about the overcrowding and I see what you guys mean. I think Turnmills just let fewer people in, it's busy but comfortable - you don't have people pushing passed and shoving about there but at Fabric you were lucky to go 2 minutes without having your dancing space reduced to 12 inches sqaure. Good soundsystem though, and the air con seemed present whereas it didn't at Turnmills. Pros and cons, can't please all the people all the time.
Highlights for me: Return of the original artform cut-up really got the crowd going - such a tune! "The Animal Song" whilst standing next to Rich & Sneaker - we were going 'ape' when this was dropped! EBW6 was sweet, there was this chick next to me who was well into it and we were feeding the vibe off of each other - really quality. Out of Control to close was immense, really rounded the evening off well and made me summon up my last ounce of strength to really have it.

What a bummer about the over crowedness ( Yeah i'm making up words again! ) I know how crazy it can be in Fabric. It's so crowded u can't even dance anymore. I think it was super crowded in mills aswell but i didn't notice as i had prime position on the speaker for 3 hours and NOBODY was gonna take me off !!! Hahaha.
Thnx for this revieuws guys - you are really feeding my Summercase apetite :P

I'll just use the edit button - oh wait, there isn't one }:-@
I also forgot to say thanks to Tom & Ed once again for playing a blinding set, and giving me that afterglow which one can only get from a Chemical event :D

Yeah it was difficult to here him fully, but me menioned that they werent sure of something like that. I didnt quite understand if it was to be a battle weapon or not.

On the subject of overcrowding, I've been to Fabric and Turnmills loads of times and I think they're both as bad as each other. As a result I don't tend to go to either that much any more.... I was even in two minds about going to see the Chems, simply because it was at fabric. Its just too much of a hassle. I prefer going to the smaller venues where I know the people running the nights and can relax more, thats my idea of a good night out, not being crushed next to sweaty tourists in fabric. One cool thing about fabric though, is laughing at the newbies as they struggle to figure out how to wash their hands in the toilets! X-D
But anyway, I propose we set up a petition to Tom and Ed, demanding their next DJ sets are played at smaller venues with a strict limit on tickets and a word-of-mouth policy. That way we, the real fans, get to enjoy their sets in relative comfort without having to be squished in with all the idiots who only go clubbing to see the 'big names'.
Anyone else agree?

Im sure a small venue would be cool, but Fabric was still a wicked set and worth being pushed about.

I managed to figure them out without any troubles, but I can imagine the amusement.
And my tourist sweat smells like frankincense, gold, and myrrh. :)
