I dare to question whether you guys even have an intact country down there. I mean no disrespect, but seriously, I think the American political spectrum is so polarized, with very little in the way of a credible middleground. I'd rather see the lunatic left in charge than the religious right, but my, if only there were better options! (We are also bereft of options here in Canada and face the same issues albeit perhaps to a lesser extent, but the parties are not quite so ideologically far apart.)

Should really just let the Confederates secede now. Move the blacks, gays, and other minorities out of the South for their own sake and just let the loonies have it.

The fact remains that a significant portion of the country still supports Bush blindly, thumps their Bible far too hard (against the skulls of fallen Iraqis), and are just straight dumb fucks beyond repair.

No disrespect taken, Darkstar. We're still holding out hope that your folks won't mind having 3 more people in their basement... just in case it all goes to hell in a handbasket. X-D But as far as intact goes - this country is in a state of divisiveness that even my 93 year old grandpa hasn't seen in his lifetime since the current administration.

The problem is the issues, the platforms of either side are polarizing and always have been to an extent. I don't think this can be avoided this late in the game but maybe if I was a political strategist I would know of some solutions... perhaps bring in more moderates or have a balance of power between the House Senate and the White House to keep things in check.

As for the significant portion of the poulation - the bible thumpers and right leaning folks and such - I watched an interesting blip with Howard Dean last night, the mover and shaker of the Dem campaign. His approach was grassroots and the strategy to win the minds of 1/3 of the religious vote made sense - approach them this time (through campaigning) rather than write them off as hopeless cases or treat them like the Democrat enemy like what's been done in the past. Exlusion is just as polorazing as the political issues themselves. As left thinking as I am it would be foolish to think the field shouldn't be levelled so some middle ground can be reached.

All this said, now we wait and see if anything gets done. On a happy note, The Daily Show and Colbert Report were brilliant last night. X-D

Shit! U.S should atleast finish the job they started in Iraq, or else it would look so bad on the world stage.

I rather think the job there politically finished the republican government in the US! Acting before thinking is one of the mature features of that bushy administration . . .

no man, I cannot agree. The only reason there's unrest in Iraq right now is that we're there, holding a puppet government that doesn't represent the people in place. How can there be peace there when the U.S. has squads of secret police putting entire families in prison and U.S. backed death squads are massacring people at soccer games?

The only way it's ever going to be stable is if they install the same kind of government as Iran. If there were real elections in Iraq, the people would vote to install a theocracy. Let 'em.

We need to get the fuck out and let Iran deal with it.

Man you don't know how fucking reassuring it is to know there still are people like you who nat are influenced by the fox trash shit ty shows shown everywhere in the U.S and express their opinions . . .

What i'd like to know is whether the American attitude changed only when thousands of coffins came back? What's the mood at the moment in your country regarding the administration, Bush etc.?

nah man, it had nothing to do with our casaulties in Iraq... do you know it's actually AGAINST THE LAW now here to photograph the coffins returning from Iraq? The government has complete control over the media, so that's not even a factor.

Right now, judging from the polls, a tiny, tiny majority of americans, like 51%, are sick and tired of bush. The other 49% are still rabid supporters of bush, people who are convinced that gays are gonna fuck all our sons, muslims are going to burn their churches and that mexicans are gonna steal their daughters.

America is only slightly less repulsive today than it was on monday, but maybe that will be enough.

Aaaaah... not so fast there, brother. ;) The Repulican party is here to stay. As long as there are issues that line both sides of the fence, there will always be a political right and a political left.

As for the current administration, they are obviously in trouble as the electrion results showed on Tuesday but they are not finished. The Speaker of the House is currently working with Bush to mend fences so they can get to work.

Such as the way things go - if one party can't fix it, then the other party is brought in to help. It all comes and goes in cycles - soundertow it would be great if there was a 3rd party who was large enough to have an impact on the dismal 2 party system we have now. The only problem with that that the US is a big place and the country has always been divided straight down the line on issues both domestic and foreign - people still see things in black or white with very little gray inbetween.

Third parties are overrated and there's no such thing as a good political system.

Actually, scratch that, the American political system is rather good, it's the people in it and the people that vote as part of it that occasionally make a mess of it.
