Sounded like sarcasm to me.

After years of that idea being shot down (even by Ed himself, on this forum) I will believe a Live DVD when I see it...

I am all for the idea, though and would be thrilled if something like a live DVD came to be some day. Would love to see and hear the awesome. The thought of surround sound Chems is... Is almost too much to bear!

Why not? Are they concerned of clearing samples used live or that they think that 2 guys behind a mountain of electro gear does not make for a good DVD? Surely the visuals, lighting and atmosphere of the show is enough to play with visually? Or maybe they think that the best live show is yet to come and want to save it for that when they think the time is right? (Or waiting for the 3D technology to improve for home theatres Posted Image)
Come out from the cold and into the setting sun. It's where it all began for me (not in Afrika), like it was out of control. Then after that life was sweet. So dream on into the pioneer skies of the fourteenth century and rise from the sunshine underground.

Yeah, that is a good question. I've always known they didn't were reluctant to do a live DVD - but why? Maybe they mentioned it somewhere and I didn't see it.

To be fair this was years ago and of course things change, and you can't always hold people to certain long-ago ideas and thoughts as if they are set in stone. But anyway, miloco2forum was Ed's old forum name and his reasoning for why there's no live DVD planned can be found in this thread:

http://forum.thechem...live-dvd-coming

As they say, that was then and this is now. So maybe just maybe one day in the distant or not-too-distant future we'll get our wish for a live DVD.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

Hahaha MX you still crack me up!

Altough i respect and understand Ed's reasons against a live DVD; i wouldn't mind if one would be released.
I've watched the old DVD so many times with friends and with my brother; because you can really take the time to see and enjoy the brilliant visuals, transitions, music and crowds. Offcourse nothing beats a live experience; but i also like to experience it from my couch!

you lot are just never happy. we've had a further DVD which is much cooler that a live dvd ever could be, apart from a 3d live dvd of course.

err I don't know about that bro... I mean a live dvd would just take it to a whole new level!

Although reading the old thread that Whirly posted, I kind of agree with Ed when he says "what is the point of a live dvd, our shows are about being there, the volume the vibe of the crowd the glint in tom's eye, getting out of the house in a hot venue or a beatiful festival..I have no urgent need to reduce that experience to sitting at home in front of the tv.."

But I don't think any of us fans here are trying to replace that experience..it's just exciting for us to see gigs that we were unable to attend because the gig was somewhere across the world from where we live or something like that..a live dvd would just be so much better than listening/watching youtube quality videos

that means, you would buy 50 different live DVDs if the chems were to release one of each of their gigs this year (incl a tour they're hopefully to play later this year)? why? for collectors reasons... maybe. but who woould really love to see those? in the end, differences are not as big as would justify such an investment

Uh, you're taking what he said too literally. Why would anyone suggest making a live DVD of every single concert they had and then buying every one of them? That's silly.

Have you seen the Everything Everything DVD? I have, it's great. I've obviously never been to an Underworld gig but from that DVD I can understand what it's like to be at one and I am more than encouraged to go see them some day because of the quality of it. I know I'm not getting the same experience from the DVD, and that's another encouraging factor. Same would go for the Chemical Brothers, no amount of bootlegs or live recordings could ever discourage me from wanting to go see them live. You can argue that the scope of a Chems live show is impossible to truly capture in film and audio, and you would be right. It is very obvious to the viewer or listener, whether it's pro shot film from Glastonbury, videos someone shot with their iphone on youtube, or just a audio file, that there is a lot that they're missing by experiencing a gig on that medium.

Point is, a live DVD would have multiple merits - it would allow people who have never seen a gig to enjoy one to a certain level, allow people who have seen one to experience the awesomeness again, and it would generate interest in seeing them live by showing people what a gig is like, without actually spoiling the entire experience for them.

The filming of our shows is highly intrusive and I feel deflects from the experience of those that have paid good money to be there, that is why when we are filmed for tv we only give them a couple of sonngs..
I think since then and looking at now, the whole online presence is increasingly becoming popular with all sorts of media at your fingertips such as YouTube to make this even harder to avoid. This opinion could hopefully be different now. We are all guilty of checking out there live shows on YouTube because we are hungry for more and want to relive what makes us happy. Even if it means sacrificing quality for a not so perfect amateur recording of the whole show and viewing it on a screen the size of the palm of our hands in most cases.I totally agree with Whitenoise what it can do for a band as well. I've always had friends that wouldn't really be too keen to come to a live Chems gig even though they are nuts about electronic music. To have 'a proof of evidence of professional quality to show them what they are missing out on would be great to generate more fans and positivity.

I maybe a little cheeky saying this but lets not forget they've already done 2 "Greatest Hits" CDs as well.

It's a silly thing to say that if a live DVD would be released, less people would come to the live shows.
On the contrary, a live DVD would encourage even more people to their live shows.

not at all my friend. you are too young to remember but hey, do you remember pearl jam (amongst some others)? they released a live CD of every gig of some tour years back, in total about a hundred or so. as mentioned, others have followed that example. a DVD instead of a CD doesn't make that much of a difference...

Actually, I think you have a good point here. I have showed live footage to friends in an attempt to convince them to go see them live with me and I believe it will work.
