hey csar,
cheers for the props man, glad u like the tune 8) :-//
a good site for samples is www.hollowsun.com - all the old drum machines are on there, all good quality wav format, so its a good place to start
i use cubase sx as my main sequencer, and some vst instruments. for the tranquility track, the piano was played and recorded by my mates at college, cant remember where i got the drum sample from. the bassline i played in live using a bass guitar, and i also played the guitar parts in.
yeh i think your right - the best thing you can do with a tune is make sure your sounds are good to start with - u can't build a house without good foundations etc etc. also, it's important that all the sounds work together well, like a good sonic stew ;) :)
compression is always good for some stuff, like drums but is easy to overdo. i use the waves plug ins for most of my outboard work, like eq or reverb, but ive got a mackie desk i put things through as well, and an alesis 3630 compresor whihc works really well.
in terms of the drums, i use one shot's if im programming beats or if im doing a live break i cut it up in kontakt then create a midi groove map to keep the swing. if im prgramming one shots i use batttery 2. its a wicked drum machine i highly recommend it!
ive not used fruityloops, so i cant comment on it, but my mate ODP uses it and he's done some amazing glitch stuff with it if u get good quality one shot samples fruityloops should be ok to use.
mips :)
