Just because our opinions differ from yours doesn't mean you're not welcome here. Unless you came just to troll. In which case don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Otherwise stay and add to the discussion here.

Seconded.

I can see how my first post looked trollish, but I'm not one I promise.
But when I see a reply like probass, how am I meant to feel welcome.
I guess I regret not going to live shows years ago but I was young and penniless, and I know someone on this thread managed to go, but I could be anyone.

Anyhow I don't want to argue anymore but just say I did not realise Roundhouse was focussed on the new album, I decided to join this forum at midnight the other night so as pointed out my post wasn't as thought out as normal hours, I was just cranky it wasn't what I expected and wondered if anyone else felt the same.

I guess to top it off I was quite bored at the beginning and wondered if the first few songs I now know as the new album were album tracks I'd never heard.

I do believe that if I am the only person who was not keen and everyone else loved it, the problem lies with me and not you lot.
Last but not least, I dont drink sue to problems I had and was sober for the gig....maybe my perception was different as I was sober and not howe I used to be, drunk and comatose most of the way through.

I'm not a troll! I'm Rachel, a lovely 27 year old married woman in Sales.
Obsessed with DYOH

My bad!!

Love to all

Crikey I've said it again ... now I saw someone write (I was afraid to read all replies as I might cry lol) they played the whole album.
It wasn't actually boring, I guess silly me was waiting for old songs. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

I now know the tour was to promote the new album. I should never have gone.
Maybe I'll get to the next gig.

Hey Rachel - I realize I shouldn't have yawned in this thread, it wasn't a nice thing of me - but I and those who have been here over the years have become a bit defensive when it comes to fly-by-night posts where people come on, bash the Chems, then leave us all in an uproar over the little things that shouldn't really matter. And we thought you might have been one of those fly-by-nighters, too. It's just a common thing when there's a new album on the horizon. But I see you're not a troll, and that's cool. There's no one way to listen to and enjoy the Chems as long as at the end of the day we're enjoying what we have. It takes some courage to stick around when you've been beat down so I admire your persistence and coming here.

You are not the only one who didn't enjoy the show. There have been others who've come here and expressed their disappointments with the set. I guess you just win some, and lose some... In a perfect world everyone would love every bit of a Chems gig but that's just not possible. I hope the next show you get to see by the Chems, you will have a better experience and will get to hear some of the things you missed out on in previous years.

Peace out!
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

Thats nice to say, and thank you. I really didnt think a first post slamming the gig would look bad but there you go, I didn't think. We live and I learn!
And yes I am persistent, and it's only because I really do love the chemical brothers! I know I seem like a fly by nighter but you can see I'm not.

I could have done with you lot 15 years ago ... I like rock music as well and when everyone had Take That on their Walkmans I was like yay chemicals and such like. I was so beat down for that too.

SO like I said, I'm a big fan (maybe not die hard, okay okay :)) and I'm glad to be here.

the thing is after these shows and before an album drops there is always more trolling, people saying "why were the chems so shit last night?" and my personal favorite, "i wasnt there but the shows seemed pretty shit"

so now we know youre not a troll your views opinions and rants are welcome here! we are one big happy family of nerds, geeks and obsessives here, and theres always room for one more, especially one who loves dyoh!

what did you think of further when you heard it at the roundhouse? obviously it was the first time hearing it and it was alot to take in, hopefuly you liked it though, its going to be an epic album

Wellllllll you know as I was expecting more old stuff I didn't pay tooo much attention. My husband got a migraine too so I spent alot of the first bit saying do you need to leave! I did think it was okay, I was standing and my section were all sitting so I didn't get up and dance even though I wanted too. looking back it was a bit of hassle travelling so I guess a few things added to the feeling of ...OMG I came all this way and I get a bit of anxity in crowds so it took me a while to settle down.

Were you at the show? Something that did occur to me to say was that at the end they got booed alot for not coming back. Most bands do an encore so we sat for about 20 mins waiting for them to come back! Thats part of the reason I thought saying I was disappointed would get a better reception, lots of the standers stayed and lots were saying OMG they ddint come back as we all walked out.

haha answering the question I'm not sure. I tend to like to listen to music in my flat and play the whole thing through alone to bget a good feel, so I guess I will have to do that and form an opinion.

I watched the videos and read all the reviews and the second part of the show did not look amazing. I mean, there was no surprise (apart from the vocals of Setting Sun), the visuals were the same as in WATN tour, and it was short...of course the Further part was probably great and I'm sure I would have enjoyed it if I had been lucky enough to go there, but as I read, the second part (with older stuff) was too much surpriseless and WATN Tour-ish.
So I can understand that some people were disappointed, and please don't be harsh with them. Besides, Rachel's post was way less trollish than James' one (Why did the Chems suck ?).

I'll try to see the Chems on this tour (probably Paris in october) and I wouldn't like the show to be first Further and then a short version of the show I saw two years ago.

Sure Further was the highlight, but it would have been better if the whole show had been new IMO.
When Further is released, I'll create a thread to say more about my expectations for this tour.

I thought myself people on here were being a bit hostile towards RachelStarfish.

However...I remember being the same myself towards one poster around the time Come With Us was released. People were downloading it illegally well before the release date and coming on the old messageboard and slagging it off. It pissed me off at the time - if someone had been out and spent their hard-earned cash on the cd/12" and were disappointed with what they heard then fair enough, but they hadn't and by coming on the board and telling everybody it was shit before it was even released in some ways spoiled it for those of us who were waiting patiently. I think these kind of posts were far worse than those of RachelStarfish and James, who at least went to the gigs!

Some of the hostile posters were told the error of their ways anyway....by Whirly  .

maboul, have you any idea how hard it would be to do an entirely new set, as well as playing further live in its entirity with visuals and a whole new visual set up,after completely a whole new album? i dont know how hard it would be, but i can imagine it would be next to impossible!

I think I see now it'd be better to see a real tour than an album showcase. I wish I could go back and see the ad's, I really didn't know that was what it was.

Just a brief statement on that topic in general. One of the most important reasons for disappointment is the mismatch of expectations and reality. It's like someone's giving you some candy. When you're about to take a bite or taste it, you might expect something sweet or sugary. You wouldn't expect a salty or spicy kind of candy soften in your mouth. In most cases, this leads to disappointing emotions and dissatisfaction. But what would have been happend if you had known what you were getting? Maybe you could have appreciated it differently - maybe could you have even enjoyed it and starting to like the new flavor - or still hate it, of course. That's why I try to breake away from any narrowing expectation when it comes to new chemical brothers music or music in general (if we stick to that category). I try to form my opinion on music like I do with new people I meet in my life. First, let them show who they really are, then decide if they appeal to you or if they bore you to death.

When I listen to music these days, the only questions I ask myself are: !"Does it move you? Has it any emotional impact on you that you like to have (excluding hate caused by ugly sounds which again increase the possibility of the urge to gag)?

And then again, you still have two options: Like it or don't like it.

A few observations.Rachel was indeed a bit naive in her expectations of both the show and coming on here but that in itself aint no crime. Most Chems fans would have known in advance what the Roundhouse shows were going to be about. As far as Tom and Ed not doing an encore Rachel, how many of the bands that you have seen live have a stop after every song they do?About 99 per cent right? So maybe thats the trade off, think of it that way.
One final thought,I dont know how well you know the other Chems albums apart from DYOH, but surely the creators of that masterpiece would deserve to have anything else they've released given a proper listen?

Not impossible. They had been working on the show for several months, and the recording of Further ended around february/march as far as I know. So they could have changed at least a few things with the old stuff (the only "new" thing is the vocal of Setting Sun). They hadn't played live for more than one year and a half so I think that, apart from the recording of Further, they could have taken a few weeks off in order to take a look on the old stuff.

Anyway, I don't want to have an argument about that, I just hope that the forthcoming tour will bring us some surprises.

OMG sorry I kind of don't want to come back here and be seen to harp on but I've had questions directed at me!
Well I think I know the new albums quite well, I have all of them as in I buy them as a matter of course and listen to them. I guess I don't feel all the songs speak to my emotions as you say but then again not all songs do to everyone so that's not a bad thing.

I guess also Csar's nice post about not having expectations and going to just hear what happens on then night, well I feel I do but as I said alot earlier I do like more 90's music so I guess I am a bit stuck in the past. No crime, I guess I just like the old stuff more.

RE: the Encore, like I said above I don;t really think too deeply about how they had to stand there constantly and that means no encore, I really wasn't too bothered I just wanted to point out I was in a room with other people doing the same thing, therefore I cant be the only one in the Chem world of that opinion.

Everyone has been pretty nice to me since they found out I wasnt a troll but I promise I wasn't the corwd booing at the end! If you went to the roundhouse it will make sense when I say 70% of the whole show and the room was a sell out, stabding there booing at no encore.

I cannot be the only one and feel as this progresses I feel a bit 'made to look shallow' as I didnt know it wasnt a proper gig and poor loves had to stand there for 1 hour on their feet (sarcasm) = no encore.

I wasn't the only one booing ... I'll say it again LOL

Sorry if I seemed hostile--I was merely trying to accurately say why much of the forum was responding negatively without making it look like I had "my head up my ass"

Anywho, welcome!
