yes, trust me means A TON! That show in 99 changed and inspired me soooo much at a very influential time in my life. The chems in general are/were a huge part of my life. Ive changed/evolved and so have the chems. Both are good things.
What the chems have done to electronic music should never be minimized. THEY ARE ELECTRONIC MUSIC

I sort of feel the same, prochem. As a band evolves musically, their sets have to follow suit. But it's really up to the audience on whether they want to follow the band.
I now have 4 Chemical Brothers live shows since 199 under my belt... and they keep getting better and better. I think had I seen the Chems from way back in the day might give me more leverage in my claims, but that is neither here nor there. The sets along with the production and stage presentation have matured - this is made clear in their intros, outtros, transitions and the varying degrees of jamming and improvisations (as mx pointed out in another thread he started). After seeing them Saturday I get the feeling hey are confident and content with what they are doing and where things stand as far as their live shows go.

I don't know that I can ever understand why people who get headaches from strobe lights or loud music intentionally put themselves in an envoronment in which they know they are going to be saturated with both?
I personally LOVE strobes, lazers, intelligent lighting, and video. I think the DYNAMIC contrast used between all the different types of media and effects results in an extremely expressive visual show. The video alone can only bring so much to the table. When using video AND strobes / intelligent lighting, you can broaden the dynamic range greatly, which in turn is more dramatic and interesting. Fair?

By the way, I just want to take this opportunity to be a complete lush, by saying that the production team for the WATN tour is nothing short of amazing! I grew up in a very musical household and I've seen all kinds of different performances ie) Musicals, professional talent shows, stomp, blue man group, small venue rock concerts to rediculously large venue rock festivals, house parties to electronic music massives, jazz concerts, marching band shows, orchestras, full scale lazer shows with fireworks and live soundtrack entertainment... you name it.
What I witnessed on sat night by the Chemical Brothers show was HANDS DOWN the best overall performance I have ever seen in my life. I'm not saying it just to say it, I'm being completely honest. The entire show from start to end was brilliant.

My sis-in-law was with us at Coachella mainly because her husband wanted to... Come With Us. She likes the Chemical Brothers, but really wasn't interested in seeing them live since she knew it was a visual/sonic onslaught. That combined with being in the heat all day just didn't do her body any good. Not that she wouldn't want to witness something like that, but she is very sensitive to sensory overload and gets migraines quite easily. I'd be sad if I couldn't get to see the Chems do what they do in a live setting. Not only that, but just being in the crowd and seeing how they respond is part of the fun and experience.

Seeing people's reaction is at least half the fun. It all goes back to sharing. It's so important for me to share music with others. When you're in a large crowd, you can get an awesome vibe that's just not achieved quite like that anywhere else. Hell, I started to get a headache when we pulled into the parking garage before Nocturnal started. Basically I didn't get very much sleep for several nights ahead of time, and I drove for 9 hours or so straight. I just popped some Motrin and called it good. I wouldn't have missed the live show for anything.
