yeah i pay ?2,300 insurance on a 1.2 ltr car!!!

Ouch. I pay around $1200 (Cdn) = 800 euros per year for a 2.0 ltr turbocharged car. One of the things I really do appreciate about Manitoba. Among the cheapest rates in the Western world.

It's kinda in the middle of nowhere. We're located roughly in the centre of Canada and have no major places surrounding us either in Canada or the US for about a 500 mile radius. Winnipeg, where I live, is the capital of the province, and has a population around 700,000 people of 1.5 million in the province total. Geography is largely bald-ass prairie (lots of wheat and cattle farming throughout the province), though Winnipeg is in a lush river valley at the confluence of three rivers. Ethnically and socio-economically diverse. Thriving music scene and more restaurants per capita than any other city in North America. Best lit city at night in North America and one of the greenest cities on the continent. Great culture and the arts (one of the best theatre centres in Canada, North America's largest cultural celebration Folklorama, and one of the largest folk music festivals around), and a variety of professional sports (hockey, football, baseball). Unfortunately, stagnant economy and the murder capital and child-poverty capital of Canada, but despite that is an eminently comfortable and enjoyable city to live in.

Didn't mean for it to be a travel brochure here, but I guess I need to set the record straight after all the whining I do about living here. Although I'd like to see the rest of the world, Winnipeg is a good place to come home to.

(BTW, IDM artist Venetian Snares is from Winnipeg and his latest album is called "Winnipeg is a Frozen Shithole". Go, civic pride!)
