Truth - check out the Ian Brown forums

2 structural beams gave way that were supporting the dance floor and luckily the building was evacuated before the floor completely gave way.

Does this meant that the Chems will be playing in less than a fortnight?

Here's a (not very good) photo of the floor from a dodgy angle taken via a camera-phone of the floor last night

Yeah - the gig is sheduled to be on there !st of December - doesn't look good.

The Bravery are meant to be playing there tonight but the official website still doesn't have any news on what they intend on doing. If they are cancelled then it looks like the damage might be worse than first feared. http://www.newcastle-academy.co.uk/[/url]

I'm glad nobody was hurt!

Good thing Jeanie wasn't there, from what I heard she pounds craters into dance floors! ;)
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

read on another forum that there is a 15ft drop down from the floor to the basement. they might have to close of parts of the academy for repairs so don't think the chems gig might go ahead. and to think they spent 5 million remaking that venue this year

Hi all, I'd like to set the record straight about this.

I was at the Ian Brown gig last night. What happened was a few of the springs under the floor came off when everyone was jumping about to I Wanna Be Adored (Which was mega! 8) )

It was quite a large dip, but the whole floor collapsing is a bit of an over-exaggeration. Nothing that can't be fixed. The Bravery's gig has been cancelled, but tomorrow night's gig (Teenage Fanclub) will definitely be going ahead.

As will The Chemical Brothers. This will not affect the gig. Also, Ian Brown wil be rescheduling this gig for next month hopefully :D

Anyway, glad that's cleared up. Looking forward to Glasgow gig (I would've gone to Newcastle, but like a few others on this board, the Glasgow date was announced earlier so I got tickets for that, nevermind, its gonna be brilliant!)

So don't worry about the Newcastle gig, it should definitely go ahead.

w00t - g00d news indeed - those Ian Brown forums from peeps at the gig paitned a range of different stories about the extent of the damage (and I was a little wary about the PR hype from the venue itself saying as it let this happen amongst blatehring on about its 5 million refurb). I s'pose it depended on how mortal drunk those people were.....
