Tom and Ed,

I am a huge huge huge fan, but I’m sure you hear that all the time. I am writing you because I have been waiting to hear you play live for the past 14 years. I once had a chance when to hear you play many years ago in Austin, TX on my birthday, April 22nd, but my mom wouldn’t let me go (long story)… Well I finally get to see you at Coachella this year, right before my birthday, and I have one request if you could entertain it. Would you please play The Sunshine Underground? It is my favorite song of all time! Thanks for your time and the many years of great music.

this is really really cute! but the guy is right, sunshine underground is a big one but I doubt they're going to do a big set reshuffle, bringing in different songs compared to the warmup shows... will have to wait for what the sets in oz are going to be like.

however, I always wanted to hear buzz tracks live.
love is all.

A bit off-topic, but i've always wondered, why didn't the Bros play 'It Began in Afrika' live more often.

That track is CREATED for parties, it's such a banging tune when played live, it's really a pity they didn't give that tune a proper place in any tour.
You're never too retarded to RAVE!!!

Awwww, Brad! I made the same request of T&E back in 2007. :D TSU is my favorite track of theirs, too. Maybe you'll get lucky!! Looks like they're closing with The Private Psychedelic Reel these days, though...

My bet is that the point where they remove Escape Velocity from the setlist is the point where TSU takes its place. That or the (hopefully far-off) tour where the Reel gets taken away from us again.

LOVED hearing this track live--IMMENSE energy. I would be floored if it came back to the live set for Coachella. :D

Just wondering (no footage of it obviously and only audio recordings of it to prove to me that they ever did play it live) - they used the "animal" visuals for It Began In Afrika, right? So the prowling leopards and monkeys that now grace the transition between Setting Sun and Saturate originated there? Or was it Hoops?

Escape Velocity with Golden Path vocals was far toooooo massive to be removed. Best moment in Luxembourg IMO but I am sure some others might share this opinion.

Don't think they'll be doing TSU again even though it would be huge. Afrika needs a rework and will come to life again some day, being called "Here Come The Drums" ha ha ha

Good question about the visuals. If my memory serves correctly they played It Began In Afrika when I saw them at Coachella (Come With Us) but I honestly don't remember the visuals for that one.

I remember writing a letter to The Chems if they can play TSU when I was in the hospital after a 3 car pile-up on the freeway while driving to a Chems gig. This was years ago! I remember the doc telling my parents that I wasn't going to make it. And out of desperation, I woke up from my coma and wrote a quick email to the bros to play this song as a last request from a dying young fan, while faintly listening to the live broadcast of the show from my radio that was next to my hospital bed!

They didn't play TSU! :(

Anyway Brad, the Chems often come to read these posts, but your request, is a longshot! They just resurrected
TPPR to their recent tour, but anythings possible!

Hey guys, thanks for the encouragement but I realize it's probably not going to happen. Not even a dying man's last request... great story by the way (well not really, but you know what I mean). I'm just super pumped that I actually finally get to see them live! For all those experienced folks out there, is it the type of show where you want to get right up front if possible, or is it good to be more in the middle so you can get some dancing in?

having seen them in luxembourg, with an audience of approx. 4.000, I was right in front and still had enough room for dancing, similiar to all others around me. few crowdsurfer though... but in general a brilliant and relaxed atmosphere. anyway... at a festival things might be a bit VERY different

I need my own little personal bubble for dancing room. Being up front and close to Tom & Ed is great and all, but I get much more out of dancing my ass off and being one with the crowd in the middle.

It's so great you're coming out to Coachella to see them!! I see the Chems whenever they play Coachella, and I can say with every fibre of my being that it is magical and uplifting every time!

I have also seen them from every vantage point at Coachella - from up at the front (in the Sahara tent) to near the back (out on the field when they played the main stage). There's so much going on visually, and the music is so all-encompassing in the air and you can even feel it vibrate up through the earth... There's really not bad way to see the show. Being up front is nice because it's fun to watch their expressions and see them do their thing and communicate. Though it can get crowded because everyone wants to snake their way to the front. But being in the middle or toward the back is great too because you can get the full scope of their set and have room to breathe and move.

It's going to be a blast no matter where you end up. :)

Also glad you're okay.

When I found out they didn't play TSU, I quickly went into cardiac arrest and flatlined! I was dead for a good 5 minutes when all of a sudden, I had a dream where Tom and Ed were in the heavens and looking down at me. As I floated up toward the clouds, I heard them say in a thunderous voice 'come with us and leave your world behind'! But then I got pulled down back to earth and fell back into my hospital bed.

I woke up from this intense dream and realized that I was sitting in the back of a paramedics van with only a scratch on my face. I also noticed that I completely walked away from this massive car wreckage on the freeway, and that the police were more than happy to escort me to the Chems gig!

....they still didn't play TSU! :(
