OMG! DATING! So much fun awkward.

I'm currently reading a patent case about a "cool-touch" deep fryer and trying to work in the Bluth Cornballer. (where my Arrested Development fans at???)

So, yes, it's my birthday tomorrow, and everyone sees me and has that same reaction: YOU'RE TURNING 32??!?!?!??

You should have seen the disbelief during my 1L year in law school when everyone learned I was turning 30. Hilarious.

Anyone heard Tycho? I just saw him this weekend and loved it.

ha! Only a matter of months before season 4 comes out!

To my huge surprise, I'm going to be DJing live for the first time ever in a few weeks! I was elected the music team leader of a music/dance/engineering group at my school and we're putting on a show sometime in the future. It's not going to be impressive by any means AT ALL, but I'm doing some miminal reasearch so it won't be just a seqenced playlist or anything. At this point, it's just Virtual DJ with a Numark turntable controller. We might get a light system (projecting over the equipment or crowd ala Chems 1995 is a possibility  ). Basically we're just trying to make a "club-like" atmosphere that we can raise awareness and sell crap at.

Any reccomendations for tracks to play, or any tips on DJing correctly? Anything and everything is helpful, unless it's a sarcastic Ben_j post (jk).

No live set? WEAK!

I would just play tracks to what you and your friends listen to at school. Simple as that! Of course, it wouldn't hurt to play some Chem favorites as well. Since its a school function, I assume the school will provide the sound system and lighting. if not, look into package deals to rent sound and lighting equipment nearby.

Don't worry about Djing correctly, just sync your tunes! The crowd isn't concerned about trainwrecks, etc. They just want to hear music and forget about homework/studies. But if you want to impress, than learn the basics of beatmaching, watching your levels, cueing, or watch some youtube vids.

Just have fun with the event! There's really no stress about it. I think you'll be great!

If the school has a projector, than use it by all means! Visuals to match your music would have more impact. Old stock film footage, exploding teacups, ants, kdb birds, use your imagination.

Bring all of your music. You may be surprised at the amount of requests you'll get at an event like this. You may be even more surprised by the amount of requests you will get that have absolutely nothing to do with the style you are playing. Maybe you won't get a single request.
Every show and every crowd has its own personality. Stay fluid and enjoy the moment. Rock the house in!

Have fun. Be cool. Put out a vibe that makes you happy but keeps them wanting more.

One more thing. If you have the processing power, record your show. You may or may not want to share it after the fact, but it will make a nice personal souvenir for you in the future.
Gonna work it out...

SCORE!

Saw an ad on CL, and a guy was selling Chem posters! Got a great deal for 5 of them (2 Surrenders, DYOH, BRB, and SS). Will post pics when I get them! Super excited!

:-(

That sucks man!!

In other news, the weekend was kind of amazing. I saw Peaches, Ghostland Observatory, and Bassnectar. I don't love Bassnectar's music all that much, but the show was really intense--a huge wall of sound in front of a huge wall of lights/LCDs. Immense. Although he talked during the performance a number of times--I hate it when electronic music artists try to pump up the crowd by talking. Just fucking play, man! Yeesh.

In other news, I have a lot of work coming up in the next two weeks with a Halloween party to deal with in the middle of it. I kind of wish it wasn't happening. :-(

Otherwise, in general I wish people were a little more chill.

Same boat! Shitload coming my way! 20 days of roughing of it out till my next vacation, in which I will probably barricade myself to my living room sleeplessly playing Halo 4 (fanboy..I mean fanguy)

Hard to compose myself lately (I blame a few people here and there, and those damn posters which still haven't arrived yet)

Halloween...not sure if it's in the cards for me, but will be a last minute decision. Is Dr. Awesome making a reappearance?

Had a druggy test for USPS today, plus 2 hrs of paperwork to fill out for them. Details soon, but if that don't work out, I have another interview this thursday for another company, so let's see how this plays out! 'shakes 8 ball'

Did I mention that those damn posters haven't arrived yet?

Nobody knows the trouble I've seen...

That would be pretty sweet if you could get on board with USPS, inchem. They have some of the best in health benefits and retirement/pensions in the country. In this day and age, that is priceless. Good luck!

Well, my family made it safely through Hurricane Sandy, which by far overshadows anything in my recent memory.

We were very lucky in many ways. We only had minor damage to the home, and the fact that I'm posting is pretty much insane considering all of the power outages in the US northeast.

We haven't gotten in the car to access the local damage, but I feel a lot of empathy for those affected by the devistation.

My office has been closed for two days, and some branches will be closed for a third. Schools are still closed, too. Tomorrow I'll take the kids to a movie during the day and then trick or treating at night. It feels a little shallow to even think about Halloween right now, but after what the kids have been through the last two days, at least they're still going to get dressed up and go out.

Seriously, that shit was crazy.
Gonna work it out...

Glad your family made it out safely!

I've been seeing some photos of the damage--unbelievable.

Hopefully this all will pass without any terrible tragedy, though damage is obviously expected to be tremendous.

In other news, I DJed for 5 hours on Saturday night, successfully. A bunch of people were dancing and it felt GOOOOOOOOOD. :D :D :D :D

In other news, I have to take the fuckingMPRE on Saturday (a.k.a. the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination). It's not too bad, just annoying as all hell.

In other news...

Satur8, I am so glad to hear you are OK! Watching the events unfold and seeing footage and photos of the aftermath is as surreal as it is humbling. I can't imagine what it is like being in the path of a hurricane. Like... Literally being bitch-slapped by mother nature!

I think it's good that you are taking the kids trick or treating for exactly the reason you pointed out! There is nothing shallow or wrong with that at all.

Same here, I was deeply worried about you all Americans here. Footage and news in papers are really shocking, last few days I thought that media overreacted about Sandy, today I saw how terrible it really was. Satur8 mate, I'm glad you got out of it OK, hope you'll have fun trick or treating tomorrow! Take care all of you, wherever you are!

Yeah, what a monster hurricane, I tend to avoid the news so I had no idea. I've been through a much smaller one and it is f&#cking scary. So glad your house held up Satur8. I hope it was the same for all your friends and family.
Further Remixed There's nothing else...

The support from everyone is appreciated!

I live in Delaware, somewhat near the river and not too far from Philadelphia, PA. Although we had flooding and downed trees we certainly didn’t face the devastation seen on the NJ and NY coastlines.

That being said, it was extremely stressful and not something I’d care to face again. As you’ve read, this was a slow moving dangerous storm which hovered over us in varying degrees on intensity for over 24 hours. We experienced hours upon hours of high speed wind BANGING on the walls of the house coupled with rain falling at about an inch per hour. The wind was easily strong enough to bend and knock over trees, and the sopping wet ground only increased the possibility that any tree could go. I built a nest of mattresses under the strongest archway of the house, farthest from any tress in our yard, and we stayed close together in a small area for hours. There was also the threat of losing power and the possibility of having it remain off for days (local news reported the possibility of preparing for a week). I am back at work today, and some of my co-workers are still without power at home.

Again, we were very lucky in every way. Short of purchasing a generator, I was as prepared as I could be with the advanced notice we received, and at no point did it ever feel like enough. It has really made me rethink my cushy lifestyle of modern conveniences, and also how helpless we all really are when Mother Nature is in a bitchy mood.

Unfortunately Whirls,I just found out that it's a non-career position, meaning it's a 90-120 contract day job, so I won't be able to accept this job! They really know how to suck you in though, meaning they were mum on the position after I took the drug test, even though my cousin and uncle insisted that the job was legit. (they both work for USPS!) Maybe next round!

First off, it's good to hear your account of what's going on from your view. You were prepared and safe! Good for you and those around you! As for the 'cushy lifestyle' you mentioned, I have accepted that the things or possessions that I have are temporary, and we are vulnerable to nature's path! As of right now, I'm watching the evening news and hearing about mothers who's kids got swept away in the flooding, or how some people having been waiting for food, gas, and shelter for 3 days, and there's so much other things we haven't seen or heard yet! Nobody wants to lose everything they worked so hard for.

meanwhile, I grab my mail and then BAM! http://forum.thechem...l/page__st__560

But beware of 'Jeb' Bush in 2016! 'scary'

But let's celebrate now, but back to real world tomorrow! Hopefully there's a job out there for someone you know (or I might know) that really needs a job.
