We gonna go take our son to see Pirates tomorrow. I had high hopes for this one, as for me the films seemed to progress (wasn't a fan of the 1st, but I liked the 2nd fair enough). The special effects have always been cool.

Thank you for the heads up on the slow-mo mariage kiss scene, I'll be sure pop some antacids or pepto bismol beforehand. I'm not a fan of slow motion or cheesed out romance in films that really don't call for it. I always thought Keira Knightly's character was a bit superflous anyway, nothing more than cinema candy in an otherwise super cinematic sausage fest.

Saw :

Employee Of The Month - cliched regular comedy - fun one time watch - nothing too great.

Animatrix - yeah finally saw most of the stories, and they fuckin rock! I think the W Brothers should have released this with more hype than the last two films which were pretty sad imo, these just rock! Too brilliant, and with the help of anime they really achieved what they were aiming to show through film and real actors. Brilliant!

Also saw My Super Ex Girfriend - heh - was better than Employee Of The Month - decent onetime watch - with a slight old school superhero movie feel, but the basic plot being comedy, it was definitely fun one time - I Love Uma Thurman, so I sat through it, just sad Tarantino can't keep churning out films with her.

POTC is the second film trilogy i've been dissapointed by this year. I loved the first two, really good fun and thats what this one lacked, the fun was just missing from it. It's sill enjoyable but not as much as the other two. I think transformers will be the big popcorn film to deliver this year.

I thought Pirates was maybe a tad better than meh. I really didn't care much for it at all except for the special effects which were cool. And Johnny Depp - he rocks.

I even caught a couple winks during the first half. And so did the couple next to me, mouths open like they were catching flies. It couldn't hold my attention and it was too freakin long, it dragged in parts. I love an epic movie, but 3 hours for a Disney movie based on a theme park ride was uncalled for imo.

Batman and Batman Returns kick all over Batman Begins butt. Anyone agree/disagree?

A few responses:

No sequel of Batman is ever going to be better than the original, but Batman Begins finishes way ahead of Batman Returns. Something just didn't work for me with Penguin. Oh, and of course it's best just to pretend that no other sequel of Batman even exists.

This latest Pirates of the Carribean was by far the worst piece of trash I've seen come out of Hollywood in a long time, but I'm no connoisseur of Hollywood trash, which is to say I usually make an effort to see movies which end up being good, or even great. But aside from a few hilarious moments from Johnny Depp, it was poorly written, lamely acted, and took itself way too seriously for its own good.

A few things in PotC I didn't buy: Elizabeth Swann being a hard core pirate. The entire fuss about Calypso. The significance of the pieces of eight. The mass executions in the beginning. The song. It's like everything had this backstory and every sub-plot had elements we were supposed to know about that weren't fully explained and we were just supposed to accept.

I suppose it worked for anyone under the age of fifteen.

Electroma--I'd like to see it, but I'm wary for obvious reasons. I think Daft Punk are a bit too pretentious for artists sometimes.

Other than that, Grindhouse was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I just wish I'd gone to see it with five more of my friends while blatantly drunk.

I liked the first two Batmans. Dark Knightish. Batman Begins was definitely an homage to that style -- way better. The ones in the middle with the stupid neon colors. What the hell. Dumb.

Haven't seen POTC 3 yet. First one was the best. 2 was.. well, a crappy sequel (crappy = no where as good as the first) ... I wanna see 3 if they can at least give me some closure to the story)

I fell asleep twice trying to watch Batman Begins. I really did give it the ol' college try but there was something about it that couldn't hold my interest. Or maybe I was exceptionally tired those nights.

evermin - wait to rent Pirates 3. It was god awful, and I was looking forward to it actually mainly because my son was into it and I sort of enjoyed the 2nd one. You all might think I'm a narcoleptic, but I actually dozed off watching that one too (in the theater no less and no I wasn't exceptionally tired that day)!

Yeah, Pirates 3 was trash... Spiderman 3 was trash, too. Worst part is, it's the crappy second sequels that make the most money... so expect many more in the future!

Anybody on this forum like Film Noir? like the Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity, Gilda, Strangers on a Train, Notorious, Laura?

Or for that matter, the films of Brian De Palma? Dressed to Kill, Blow Out, Carrie, The Untouchables, Scarface, Mission Impossible.

Saw Donnie Darko finally - pretty interesting - tho the plot's a bit confusing, but surprisingly the ending makes things fall in place, even though it's not a spectacular ending, but the film was certainly an interesting one time watch.

Saw Pulp Fiction again after ages again yesterday! :)

Donnie Darko is this generation's "Heathers"... which just goes to show what a pretentious bunch of depressing wankers Emo kids are.

saw "Oceans 13" last night! I liked it better than the other two actually. No Julia Roberts though at all this time. Has anyone else see it yet 'cos I didn't realise it at the time but I think they used Diamond Sky in the film somewhere 'cos I had it in my head on the way home and thats the kind of funky music they would use in that film.

Hmm I wonder if Brad Pitt is ever gonna start look old.

hahaha, so true about Brad Pitt - that man still has a boy face after all these years!

I haven't seen Oceans 13 but I enjoyed the first 2. I'm not shedding any tears over Julia Roberts not being in the 3rd one. That's a plus for me actually - for some reason I can't explain, I cannot stand her.

It's cool that Diamond Sky was used in the film. I read somewhere that a track off We Are The Night is going to be used in an film based on Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance - should be good!!

We rented the documentary Glastonbury which we will be watching this evening. Future viewing inspired by the events over this past weekend. :) The cover of the dvd shows a straight on view of a guy lying down. stash came up to me and said, I rented Glastonbury and look, Chebbers is on the cover!!"
