As the bringer of this apparently great news to this website, I feel sad to be the bringer of sad news as it appears that the whole Chems and MGMT thing was bullshit...

this was taken direct from MGMTs myspace page

"Also, contrary to another internet rumor, though they be rad dudes, the Chemical Brothers will not be producing MGMT's next album."

I'd love to see Kele do another collab or even all of Bloc Party with the Chems esp after hearing 'Intimacy'

Intimacy? What's this?

I don't think it's likely that Kele will work with the Chems again after they broke his heart.

It's Bloc Party's new album only available on digital release at the moment.

How did they break his heart?

surface_to_air - Kele from Bloc Party didn't like the way Believe turned out.

I personally don't agree as I think his vocals rock on the track, but it is what it is...

It's a shame about the whole Chems/MGT thing but maybe that means the Chems are going to focus more on bringing their ideas to the studio and onto the next Chemical Brothers album. After they take a well deserved break, that is.

Hmm... weird. I also thought Kele's voice rocked on Believe... One of the strongest tracks on Push the Button for sure.

Yeah, here's an interview with Kele where he talks a little about Believe. It was the first thing I could find on the subject. It's not some melodramatic "Oh I hated it" thing going on but it is what it is - Kele seems unfased really:

It doesn't sound like him on Believe cos they played with his vocal to much. That's what I remember reading.

The vocals work perfectly with the track, I don't think it would have worked if his vocals had been dry. God I love that track, i remember first hearing it at Turnmills and on Pete Tong, Tom introdued it as a bit of electronic madness :)

this collaboration would help me a lot, since I only tend to listed to the chemical brothers and mgmt lately...

mgmt is an interesting band because their songs are really progressive, but not in a bad prog rock way, but more like towards the end of a song you're like "wow the beginning of this sond sounded totally different, and now look where I am(except for electric feel and kids which are a little big like most redundant radio singles)

Yes, agreed. The last two songs on their album (Handshake and Future Reflections)are perfect examples of what your talking about. Time for a cliche statement... I think this band could go far if they don't let their small amount of success go to their head.

I really love Kids though, so much life in that track.

MGMT go electronic on second album

Created On February 5th, 2009 by i_have_ADD

All International News

There’s no denying MGMT were one of 2008’s breakthrough acts, their debut album Oracular Spectacular winning them an army of dedicated fans worldwide. Their popularity in Australia cannot be questioned, with the band having sold out their first ever tour here in the blink of an eye, and just a few weeks ago they solidified their presence with three songs featuring in Triple J’s Hottest 100, two of them in the top 10.

After a solid year of touring the globe it seems the nucleus of the group, Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, have now set their sights on album number two, and speaking with Rolling Stone magazine recently they gave a hint at what direction it might take. “We’ve been listening to a lot of old Eighties stuff,” VanWyngarden told the magazine. “Some of that early Kraftwerk stuff is great. We are huge fans of those guys and the other early German electronic stuff. I think more of that stuff is going to find its way into our music.”

These comments follow the revelation made in September last year that they plan to work with the Chemical Brothers on their sophomore release. “We’ll experiment with them to create a different sound. It won’t be dance music,” Goldwasser told UK magazine NME at the time. “They’ve collaborated with people like Noel Gallagher before and they have this psychedelic side to them, so we’ll find a common ground.”

psychedelic, with kraftwerk influence, and Chems production. Sounds like a winner already!
