Flaming Lips Street
(Thursday December 07, 2006 06:43 PM)
The Flaming Lips have had a street in their hometown dedicated to them.
The city council in Oklahoma chose a location in Bricktown, famed for its rich cultural significance, for the honour.
However, the site of Flaming Lips Alley has been described previously as being "littered with open dumpsters and poorly lit at night."
But Lips singer Wayne Coyne has welcomed the location of the street, insisting the band are very proud of their roots.
"I could see people sneaking in during the middle of the night doing graffiti art I can see all kinds of strange things going on there," he commented.

Hmm. I see some similarity between the At War With The Mystics and Come With Us... that whole brink-on-the-tunnel-of-light thing is going on:
Although the feeling is very, very different. With the Flips art, it is as though the subject of the picture comes off as apprehensive and almost fearful of what's beyond - this crash of white light seems more threatening and agitated. It's cool, like MasterEvilAce pointed out very sci-fi. Whereas with Come With Us the concept is a bit more celetial warm and inviting. The silhouette figure feels more androgynous in Come With Us and its placement in the picture can be interpreted 2 ways I think: the subject is beckoning you to follow into it into the beyond, or is approaching the viewer as if it is coming with you out from the beyond.
I always thought the album art's resemblance below was rather uncanny... not that it has much to do with the Flaming Lips but as long as we're pointing out similarities:
Anyway, I'm probably reading way too much into this. :P
