Hang on--didn't we get word from MGMT themselves that the initial rumor that they'd be working with the Chems wasn't true?

As the bringer of this apparently great news to this website, I feel sad to be the bringer of sad news as it appears that the whole Chems and MGMT thing was bullshit...

this was taken direct from MGMTs myspace page

"Also, contrary to another internet rumor, though they be rad dudes, the Chemical Brothers will not be producing MGMT's next album."

I've listened to a lot more MGMT lately trying to get into their sound. I've gotten to the point where I am liking the music. Still not into it enough to go buy their cd, but yea. A chemical brothers collaboration would be good in my eyes now because it will be the first collaboration where I knew the band before hand (except bloc party).

But we can't expect anything too soon. The bros are on break. Think far future.

MadPooter, I don't think the Chems will be producing MGMT's next album but are just working with them on a few songs.. so they're statement they made a little while ago is probably true..

It can't be too far away.. MGMT already have a name for their next album... "Congratulations"... strange name.. but i think it's a little tongue in cheek..

This whole thing is pretty clever for both MGMT and Tom and Ed...

For MGMT they get even more cred and status because in their latest album they would've worked with one of the greatest electronic artists of all time. Kinda makes sure the hype doesn't die down..

For Tom and Ed, they get to stay in touch with the newest hottest band in town hehe and maybe get themselves some new younger fans..

Not that any of us think that the Chems need marketing cos we already know they're the best :)

Ah, I see. Well any work they do together will be interesting to listen to, I'm sure, if not A+ awesome.

I wouldn't see a marketing fact (maybe a side effect) there for T&E rather than new inspirations for both the chems and MGMT. When I listened to Time to pretend and electric feel I had this feeliing they're something out of the ordinary, creative and non-mainstream minds. I think that's what the chems like - uniqueness.... and a bunch of synths :D.
