Now that the album's been out for a little while and it's had some time to sink in, in your opinion what would be the One song that sums up We Are The Night for you? You know, that one track that encompasses the spirit of the album - and why do you feel this way?

(there can only be one song - and for those who know my history here, it's nearly impossible for me to choose just one song but if I can do it, so can you. :P )

For me, it would have to be Burst Generator. Sure, this is one of my favorite tracks on We Are The Night. I think the whole album is brilliant. But this is the tune that for me, embodies the whole spirit of We Are The Night. It's that point in the album where everything comes to a beautiful, rushing and joyous peak - just like a good night out when for an instant you feel that all space and time before that moment never existed. And that break in the song - that fluttering joy that lets you breathe before the song takes off again on the whimsical journey that is Burst Generator...

Yeah. I think that song sums things up pretty much for me.

.

Your turn. Humor me. There's not nearly enough talk about We Are The Night here on the forums lately! :P

Das Spiegel

It's one of the surprise tracks you get on every chemical brothers album. For Example:

Exit Planet Dust- 'Chico's Groove'

Dig Your Own Hole- 'Lost In The K-Hole'

Surrender- 'Surrender'

Come With Us- 'My Elastic Eye'

Push the Button- 'Marvo Ging'

The all go places where other songs have never gone. They're funky, cool, and creative.

But back to Das Spiegel...

I really dont know how to describe in words how I feel about the song. Music is more of a "in the moment" type of thing with me, so its kinda hard for me to write down and describe it. All I know is the song makes me smile, and happy to be alive. Sorry Whirly, for a lame response. :P

a modern midnight conversation

this song is so beautifull have no words for it, really cool to hear it live in a'dam! Very euphoric, and a cool connection with 80's style and now.

I'm not sure if this counts but:

Seal

This song really does it for me (and technically it was on the Japanese/limited-time digital release). Theres the funky drums, the incorent vocals which are both sexy and cute at the same time. Plus, if you listen real hard with a good set-up, you can hear some very soft voices that are definitely saying something. To me, this feels "Chemical".

But for something on all the releases, I'll go with AMMC as well. Great sampling, amazing tweaking, retro/fresh style. Plus I love the vocal both for the sound and lyric. It's a lovely jam, that I feel the whole album follows.

Burst Generator.

Not only is it one of the best tracks Tom and Ed have ever made, it's...i cannot explain in words what this song means to me.

I remember when i first heard it at Summercase and i was like " WTF WAS THAT!!! " And than...at NYE 12 o clock...that was a moment i will never forget. NYE - Almost all my closest friends there that i havent seen for ages, being fucked on mud and than that song....a memory i will NEVER forget.

And the song itself , well , i got go on for hours, but altho i LOVE the whole album , Burst Generator is ... there are no words for this song !!! It's in my top 5 fave ever Chems tracks, for sure.

Definitely Burst Generator. Like Jeanie, i put it on my top 5. incredible energy, the moment at 1 min 39 is absolutely magic. This guitar, the bleeps sounds, this "burst" noise...i think it represents the album. I won't be able to give a description like Whirly (what is your "wii" code ??)don't forget i'm french ! But burst generator is unique.

i hesitate a long time with "we are the night". What a song. This spaces sound at the start, so great...I will never stop listen the star. THE best start and build up of a track, even better than "the sunshine underground"...Hoops, may i should see my judgement

I'm thinking along the lines of Bosco. Das Speigel has to sum it all up for me. It's not my favorite on the album, but most of the elements are contained in this one song.

TPWHYN.I know its not representative of what is an excellent album but personally as I,ve already said somewhere else in the forums,if this song were given any sort of air time I think it would be huge. You'd be amazed at how many people I've played this for without them knowing who it is and they've all expressed the same two things afterwards.1, thats its the Chemical Brothers and 2,that they've all loved the track. For me its just a total blissful swirl of a tune that still gives me goosebumps whenever I play it.

Burst Generator for me, but WATN and AMMC come close runners up. Like the other albums though, ask the question again in a few months and the answer might be different.

i completely see how people say Burst Generator but for me summing up the album is Das Spiegel. It gets stuck in my head (a good thing) all the time. I was just walking my dog and whistling it...heh...makes me so happy.

it's kinda funny, when they described the album as hard and electric, my picture was almost the same as what Clip Kiss is. Gonna say WATN though, great song, really rich complex and has great analog.

Burst Generator is good, but I feel like it hasn't left the same effect on me as some have, really dig the live version though... I think once i see the show my opinion of it will boost, especially that distortion!
