"The Electric Daisy Carnival, attended by tens of thousands of people, has been highly controversial since last year, when a 15-year-old girl died of a drug overdose at the two-day event in June 2010 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Park."
I love how a festival of tens of thousands of people resulting in one death of an underage girl results in an absolute crackdown on these events. Highly controversial? To whom? My grandmother? She's dead.
How about sporting event related deaths?

How about... I dunno... alcohol related deaths?
http://www.cdc.gov/n...ats/alcohol.htm
I'll give you a TL;DR (TOO LAZY, DIDN'T READ):
MDMA Related Deaths for 1997 - 2007: 605
Alcohol Related Deaths for 2007 alone: 23,199

Is as if you said planes are not dangerous because there are more deaths in car crashes. Obviously, cars are more used than planes.

Thank God. The last few months for me have been devoid of live music, and so now I get to go home to Digitalism, Deadmau5, !!!, SMD, The Twelves, Amon Tobin, Moby and M83 from August - November.
Damn I wanted to attend the love evolition fest. and of course see Moby..but I wont be in the area that weekend. It sucks because I wanted to go to the fest for the first time last year but it got cancelled. Now I wont make it this year again, so hopefully next year...
will be seeing Thievery Corp next month though

Doing the math, MDMA usage deaths are approximately 0.26% of the amount of alcohol related deaths. Even if you were to take into consideration the widespread use of alcohol versus the limited use of MDMA, I don't know that MDMA usage would be less than one percent of that of alcohol usage. Additionally, it isn't that hard to get illegal drugs in the states.
I don't know that the analogy of car deaths vs. plane deaths is fitting.
If you need more statistics, consider that the 23,199 deaths were alcohol induced, and do not include accidents and homicides.

This calculation is pointless, there have always been a lot more alcohol than drug consumers. It's as if you said that Leucemia were less dangerous than lung cancer because there are more lung cancer related deaths. But obviously, more people suffer from lung cancer. Also, MDMA is, from what I know, not an acohol, so even the sentence makes no sense.

To be brief, if you wanted your statistics to make sense, that's how they should be :
XX % of all the alcohol consumers die because of alochol
XX % of all the MDMA consumers die because of MDMA
And then there could be a comparison.
