It doesn't get anymore demented than this. fucking punch in the face this is!!! }:-)

I think Setting Sun caught a lot of flak for being a "hit" (plus there will always be those criticial of Noel Gallagher) but I also think this one is worth any fan revisiting after taking a break from listening for a long time. It's a real powerful track and assault on the senses. I like sirens when they are wailing. This song is so gritty and up in your face.

My bro-in law ripped me the audio from the live portion of the Singles DVD and I was giving the Hoops/Setting Sun @ Fuji a listen. These 2 songs together are positively evil in a good way. The tension and release in Hoops and paired with Setting Sun sounds like chemical warfare. I'll try to see about uploading it onto Stephens effteepee (if that wouldn't be stepping on any toes).

for it being a rip-off to the Beatles more like turning a great concept to another level. Sirens sitars psychadelic vocals, i miss early chems :-( .

whirly....that would be great thing to have.do itttttttttt

also listening to the DJ set in Paris (cd II) - what is the name of the only hip-hop track on it, sounds like Q-tip. too lazy to search for tracklisting.

It really doesn't matter what style or how good a treasured band's newer material is, there's something about it that just will never resonate quite the way what you originally found does (exceptions, of course).

It doesn't matter how stunning the new Chems album will be, we'll all still compare it to Dig Your Own Hole and Surrender and be found wanting. And that's not negativism or cynicism or criticism, and I hope it doesn't discourage Tom & Ed. I can't wait for Chemical 6 and think it will likely be inspired and inspiring, but Surrender (in particular for me) holds a special place in my heart. Always will.

Classics just exist in a special place and time all their own. But it's important that artists still forge forward with work that inspires them and pushes the boundaries. And it's equally important that fans have perspective and appreciate work both on its own merits and from the context in which it is located.

And Setting Sun is still stunning. I haven't been listening to much Chems lately, although the NYC DJ set still gets rinsed quite a bit. Looking forward to the official release of Feel the Pressure mix.

I agree, Darkstar. You put it in terms that makes sense without being condescending in any way.

It's sort of like going on a new ride at Disneyland. The new rides kick ass and are quite a thrill with staying power but you can't ditch the love you have for the old musty Pirates of the Caribbean. X-D

I'm just glad to have the music and stuff that I feel the music has given me in return. Priceless. I can't ask for anything more, really (but of course I want more tunes - not to be overly selfish of course.)

I'm very much looking forward to new material and going from there.

I just cant wait till the release date for chemical 6 is announced. I miss that really exciting feeling i had the month before "push the button" came out.

Its not even about the music, its like a birth of a new baby, you cant wait to hold it. :P

If there's anything as good as Hold Tight London, Surface to Air, or Believe on the new one, and we have every reason to believe there will be, I don't think we'll be disappointed at all.

Listening to the Boxer US EP and have to say that this is a great little package. Solid remixes from the DFA (really like this one: sunny!), Erol Alkan, and Abe Duque. Giant is decent and Spring is truly stunning. Spring is really one of my fave Chems tracks. The bassline is transcendent and the tinkling synths put a wistful smile on my face. (Shame the Mathew Jonson mix is a bit poo, esp. as he does some great work generally.)

To tell you the truth i wasnt blown away by believe, its solid, but nothing that puts a twinkle in my eyes. On the the other hand I thought "the boxer" was verry unique! I understand it sounds popish and that bouncing riff can be annoying, but they took a chance on this one, and i really respect that.

favorite tracks from the PTB era goes as followed

1. surface to air

2. the boxer

3. hold tight london

4. spring

5. marvo ging

I wasn't a big fan of Believe either until very recentlt. Last week I threw PTB in and was really amazed by Believe.

The Boxer was one of my early faves on the album and I still like it a lot, but some of the other tracks have begun to impress me more than they initially did.

The Big Jump is a cool track on the album, but one which really blew me away live and gave me a better appreciation of the track. I think if I listened to Close Your Eyes right now I might get a bit a misty-eyed, what with the events of this week for me.

Would it be too much to ask for a Paul Woolford mix of a Chemical 6 single?

(Honourable mentions to: Erol Alkan, Josh Wink, Soulwax, Simian Mobile Disco, John Dahlback, and maybe give Mathew Jonson another go of it? Other obviouses Justice, Digitalism, and MSTRKRFT?)

Well, I guess that's that, then. Snap to it Tom & Ed. X-D If only it worked like that.

[MX, if you haven't yet, look for these tracks:

Cirez D - Knockout (John Dahlbck Remix)

Cobblestone Jazz (ie. Mathew Jonson) - Dump Truck

The Gossip - Standing in the Way of Control (Soulwax Nite Versions mix)

All good. Very.]
