Gilden Kölsch. Probably the best beer, but it's only available in Cologne, Germany...

ok, so this is probably for Americans only (i would hope), but maybe someone can explain this to me. Within the last 2 months while I've been out I've been seeing a lot of people starting to drink Pabst Blue Ribbon? What the hell is going on?

haha, nope no trucker hats.
Actually, the place where i noticed them was at the few recent concerts I've attended. So i dont know if its a new hipster trend or what...

I think Pabst Blue Ribbonis a hipster trend. It's got to be. There's a new-ish sort of hipster restaurant in Laguna Beach that serves PBR and it comes in brown paper bag. Because PBR isn't truly PBR unless it's brown-bagged, ya know. We were talking to the owner of the restaurant and he said it's one of the most popular drinks they sell.
I can't understand it. Pabst Blue Ribbon tastes terrible!

And Darkstar - don't feel bad. Even though you haven't had nice beer in ages, I highly doubt any of us here can hold a candle to your ultimate list of beers you have. And when you come out to California, we'll get you some nice beer. We're going to Hi-Time dammit!
Since we don't have a wine thread (that's wine, not whine), I may as well post about some incredible port I had recently. I'm not a big wino but I do love a tasty port especially when the weather starts to turn. A customer of mine sent me 2 bottles of this Georgian port. I haven't had the Mildiori yet (going to pop the cork on that one tonight) but I did have the Rustaveli Khvanchkara and it was incredible - sooooooooo good!! Luckily I was sent 2 more bottles of wine. :D It's not widely distributed so I'll be saving the 2 bottles for the holidays. It's that damn good.

I just had my first run in with Chimay over this past weekend, and I'm a changed man.

This whole (relatively) healthy living thing I've been doing calls for great sacrifices. I hardly ever have beer anymore and when I do it's easy-to-drink macro-crap. I have the odd Crown Royal 'n' diet and polish a bottle of wine once in a while but I miss the pure pleasure of enjoying alcohol for its own sake on a (very) regular basis.
Granted, I look and feel a lot better, but still...

Wow! Just took that little booze fueled trip in the way-back machine... This thread feels like a lifetime ago. It's funny on the 3rd page there's talk of Darkstar not holding back when he goes to London. And here we are some 4 years later, and Darkstar is getting ready to head back (and not hold back) in London again. Full circle, baby!

@Iggy
BrewDog have just released a new one at 32% - the finely named Tactical Nuclear Penguin. A mere £35 for a 330ml bottle, though.
The label gives the warnings drink in "spirit-sized measures", and "This is an extremely strong beer; it should be enjoyed in small servings and with an air of aristocratic nonchalance. In exactly the same manner that you would enjoy a fine whisky, a Frank Zappa album or a visit from a friendly yet anxious ghost."
A proud moment for us Scots, giving something else to the world...

why drink a beer/ale at 32%, when you can just get a bottle of whiskey and get the job done proper?
Chimay makes cheese? I guess mastering the ultimate brew wasn't enough.
