Disappoints me a little as well as i heard of UTI thing . . . Please don't say all the breakbeat stuff they've released are sampled . . .

eh?

some things are sampled...some are programmed, some are a combination of the two. does it matter that they lifted a loop and use it? anyway they're always utter genius at working a drum groove

consider the beats.

morning lemon - latin rascals/matronix stytle cut ups done to perfection)...tight 808 business on hoops......rolling tribal work-outs on africa...

they're as good working a breakbeat as they are at making 4/4 roll.

anyway. now I'm ranting....and it's 1.13 :?

Yes, yes no matter about that! They are geniuses in every way! But you know, all the years you think, wow, they made it by themselves and then you know they don't.But what the hell i'm talking here, it's like you said. Not really a problem at all, it's rather surprising. Nothing more . . .

Man, it's as much an artform to create a beat from 1 shot samples as it is to combine various loops and make them work in a track.

Ben, glad you're actually going with the Juno and not the ms. I've been playing mine more recently than ever before and it is some heavy stuff, literally. Make sure you have good bass because that's what makes a juno so great is it's heavy sound. The HPF slider might as well be how many floors below you can hear your synth.

Can someone recommend a proper soundcard with good interfaces (midi and stuff) which is not that expensive? At the moment i just can plug in usb-able synths or keyboards . . .

I've got an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 (PCI card), it's only about 60. There are USB and Firewire versions for about 120, it's a good card, I'd recommend it. The only bummer is that it could do with more outputs, but that jacks up the price a lot

the Juno makes these sweet warm sounds that send you to a zen rock garden, don't you know
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

Don't bother with it mate, it (like the DX7) is possibly the worst synth in the world to program. Most of the world that want FM synthesis go for "FM7" - a VST instrument.

I've got a DX200, which is a modern grooves box equivalent to the DX7 - much easier to program and it's got a basic pattern sequencer! Check out http://www.vintagesynth.org, it's on there somewhere

I've been very tempted to get one of those. I have the great FM7 software but I am not too big of a fan of soft synths, as it is not something you can really gig with (I'd trust a broken synth more). Currently I am living in a small room with a Korg Mono/Poly -big mo'fo takes my desk up, a Juno lurking under the bed an an old SH09 on my dresser, needless to say desktop synths are more called for. Is the DX200 pretty flexible in it's sounds, like can it make all DX7 sounds or is it mainly dance/electronic sounds as the box seems to be oriented towards?

I find the sounds a bit hard and cold actually. Really digital and almost glitchy in a way, I find it quite hard to tame. That said, it's got a lot of sonic potential, I can feel it when I experiment. The filter on it is garbage compared to analogue synths, but the strength is the FM section

yeah digital synths usually lack in the filters. luckily digital sounds good through analog filters (juno is the opposite and the infamous EDP Wasp/Gnad are this combo). The Sh09 has an external filter. FM is good for cold noises though, what interests me is that and the deep sounds, I just wonder how it matches to a dx7

Never used a DX7, so couldn't really comment on that front :P

Due to the amount of knobs and buttons its got, it's easy to program, even if you do have to refer to the manual a bit to see the FM algorithms.

all this talk of synthesisers is making me wet

I've got a

Roland Juno 106

Roland Jupiter 6

Roland JX3P

Octave Cat

Oberheim Matrix 1000

Nord2 rack

and a Novation BassStation (although technically... its fucked and makes no noise. not very useful at all)

yes i'm a synthesiser pervert. I tend to lurk round the corner from Sound Control wearing a long dark trench coat and a panama hat. I watch people touching synthesisers through the windows with my binoculars.

BYEeee!!

Yeaah I got the Juno :) It's a pretty great synth, in 5 minutes I had something that sounded a lot like Daft Punk - Rock & Roll. I also made something that sound like the beginning sound of Hey boy Hey girl. Unfortunately, the synth battery is dead and I can't save patches...
