Glint 22nd May 2004
Well what can I say? - the first time in a long long time that the usual collective wasn't all present and the first time in ages I'd been to see the chems totally straight.....no I'm not a manic caner (quite the opposite).... I rarely indulge these days but usually save it for seeing the chems.....but tonight matthew - I was going to be a good boy....
Arriving at turnmills it's easy to see why the chem use Nathan Detroit as a warm up DJ.....the main rooom was already rocking and we were treated to some wicked acid house and a couple of very dirty piano jackers before the chems arrival.....
Kicking off with the alien landing/synthi noise and dropping the tempo right down we were off....
I'll say this - this was easily the best DJ set I've heard from the Chems in years and probably one of the finest ever for me... I've been going to see them for years....since the days of the Social and tonight (or last night as it was) they were really firin'......a flowing and varied trip which had the crowd going banannas all night.....they always rock but tonight everything was perfect....
as usual we headed for the newly decorated room at the back of the main dance floor (used to love the main room, it's just too packed in there)....and thats where we stayed for the whole night.....I haven't danced that hard, shouted that loud or sweated that much in ages!!!....as for new stuff, it's hard to tell whats what....there's always plenty of chems edits and dj material but I would say that the set as a whole seemed very fresh...plenty of classics yeah but a lot of stuff we hadn't heard before in the dj set........
Highlights of the set for me:
Give it up or turn it loose cut up
Britney/Neptunes - slave beats
New EBW - acid line and driving organ? - forget adonis/bam bam, the best acid tune I've ever heard.....really fucking shocking - maybe the best EBW to date?
Leftfield/Lydon - Open Up (Chems Mix)...the mrs went banannas
song to the siren
tiga - pleasure from the bass (genius)
it doesn't matter
golden path - (ewan pearson mix if I remember rightly
smokebelch
nude night
Bowie at the end?!
My over all impression was that of two people really enjoying making music and effortlessly rocking the turnmills faithfull once more....I can't wait for the new album.....recent output (golden path/GYH) and that dj performance suggests to me they're firin'.....

well part 2 of my night!!
got to turnmills about 3.15 and sailed straight in to the sound of the golden path. as per usual turnmills was rammed and the crowd were 'avin it.
when i got there we had a classic mix of chems matterial golden path, star guitar, open up, it doesnt matter, MSP everything must go, song to the siren, slow, hbhg/sargent pepper, smokebelch/feet. they finnished their set with the happy mondays 'WFL' one of my top 5 tunes of all time, although it does make me feel old!! that was followed by david bowie's 'sound and vision' which sounded amazingly fresh on turnmills sound system!!
i must admit it think i got there a bit to late to hear the new stuff which is a shame but i got catch the last hour and a half of their set. and the night keep going for another hour after that!! going on to glint after makoosa was the icing on the cake for my saturday night. what buzz
i got to say hello to tom and ed and briefly chatted with them, it was quite bizare talking about makoosa! i managed to watch some of their set. it's nice to see the chems like to use some dj toy. i noticed they have started using the cycloops sampler, i saw they had it at the last glint party. a great little gadget for looping sounds, which they used rather nicely when they played slow. and good to watch tom playing sound effects on the cdj's and reversing and messing with it. i alway find it intersting watching dj's in action wheather it's my mate down the pub or erick morillo at pacha. you can always learn.
i'm loving turnmills. i never had a bad night in there. i always say it, truely the best club in london. i cant wait to get back the in 2 weeks time for roger sanchez 8 hour marathon. and before that homelands next week!! thank god for summer.
cheers tom and ed

Hi, Im new on here, but am a big big chems fan, traveled for 7 hours to go to glint, and was worth every second.
I got a little list of tracks they played going on:
HIA
GOLDEN PATH (EWAN PEARSON MIX)
STAR GUITAR
SONG TO THE SIREN
KYLIE - SLOW (CHEMICAL BROTHERS MIX)
MANICS - EVERYTHING MUST GO (CHEMICAL BROTHERS MIX)
OPEN UP (CHEMICAL BROTHERS MIX)
IT DOESN'T MATTER
GOT GLINT
NUDE NIGHT
UNDER THE INFLUENCE (MIXES 1 + 2)
RUDE RKADE - BEUTIFUL (RUNES ACID MIX)
LAURENT GARNIER - CRISPY BACON
MAN WITH GUITAR - MAN WITH GUITAR
UNDERWORLD - REZ
FREESTYLE - DONT STOP THE ROCK
SLEEPWALKER - OPEN MY HEAD
(the one with the freestyle - dont stop the rock sample)
(the one thats the chems edit of return of the original artform)
Anyone else know any tracks they played, cos i wouldnt mind getting hold of them.
I loved the new stuff, stuff which was tell tell chems, ala the one that sounded like the sunshine underground but pianoey. Loved the minimal blippy breakbeat track too. and the one with the singin about "someone to call my own" CLASSSSIC.
Any news on their new album ?

Welcome aboard, Fatman88 - glad to see a new name in here!
Interesting description of the "new" tracks - if those tracks were indeed new Chems material, the fact you recognized the Chemical signature is a good thing, it's a part of their sonic identity that's been prevalent in all their records and that's cool. I can't wait to hear what you've heard. If there really are piano bits in the new record... *sigh* :D I'm going to be one happy woman...
