Chemical Brothers and Prodigy

Both the Chems and Prodigy have release their "Singles release" albums and the Chems have already released their new album while Prodigy's new album is a work in progress. PTB includes some of the Brothers best work up till now and I believe the new Prodigy album will include some killer tunes aswell. Also, I have seen both bands a couple of times this year.
It seems to me that these bands a related in so many ways. Off course the both surface from the UK underground dance scene. Both acts have started from the love for parties and hip-hop. The first time we find them together is Voodoo people from 1994 with the wicked Dust Brothers remix, for which even a video was made. Later Prodigy remixed this tune in the live set and Voodoo Beats was born, now released on the singles album.
They also seem to have a particular love for Primal Scream. 3 tracks have been remixed by the Chemical Brothers and Liam co-produced a track in the XTRMNTR period. With remixes you can also find their love for hip-hop in one particular person. Method Man was remixed by both Chemical Brothers and Prodigy.
Both seem to be th dance acts (well maybe together with Underworld) who merged beautifully in the big festivals. Here in Holland they played a couple of times together at the same festival. And at one particular festival in the UK Keith joined the Chems on stage with some wicked dance moves (Ed, Tom any chance for us to ever see that again??).
But I also found big differences between both bands. While Prodigy is the more harder, agressive band, now with "live" instruments, the Chemical Brothers seem to be true to their electronical music and be able to make more beautifull music. At a Chems show I get a "I'm in love" high while at a Prodigy gig I get a "I'm gonna kick some ass" rush.
Also the fans are different. If you check the Prodigy forum once in a while they seem to bitch and moan more often. Sometimes even seriuos disliking each other. Over here most of the time it is Love, Peace and Happiness. On the Prodigy forum hardly anyone seem to know the Chemical Brothers, over here there are some hardcore Prodigy fans (Skylined, AnType and off course myself and I know there are some others, just forgotten your names :-// ).
Looking and listening back through both single albums and bonus discs (yeah even those seem to have a similar build up) I thought I would be nice to look at both bands at the same time. Not really compare because both are awesome IMO but just to see how they both seem to be connected with each other.
I would be nice to read some other opinions of you guys.
P.S.: O yeah, sorry Liam, Keith and Maxim but this time Tom and Ed should go home with an EMA award. The Chemical Brothers deserve it this year and Prodigy got plenty :D

Hahahaha i love you man X-D
Anyways...i love The Prodge big time , but my love for the Chems is 100 x more...and i'll tell you why.
You already mentioned it yourself , but what i love about the Chems is that they can bring me on such an different level. They give me such emotiones i cant even discribe. There skills to mix pumpin beats with the most beautifull sounds ever makes almost every song a trip man. With the Prodigy i just go fucking ape , with the Chems i feel so much feelings i cannot even explain it.
Amen!

That's not to say the Prodigy don't make good music that fits a mood or situation (though I'll admit I severely disliked the latest effort) I think this is more a matter or what I like/don't like with me, I'm afraid.

And yes one of the points you made about the
''Im in love'' feeling and the ''Im gonna kick your ass feeling''
I get that too, when i just listen to the album at home :P
cant talk from experience cause i aint seen prodigy yet (going to though) ;-)
Its easy enough to point that out aswell, just listen to FOTL and then listen to Chems - Come With Us :D

and I totally agree with jeanie, i love the chems and i love prodigy but... the chems can bring me really high and make me feel love, whereas prodigy simply makes me feel like i had three pills ecstasy down.
but it's true that these two bands are really near...
On the second disc of the anti nazi mix, tom says "I'd like to do something with prodigy"

Prod fans on there forum seem to dislike the chems and look down on the chems, which I feel is pathetic due to the links between these great bands.

Well thats kind of how i feel also, i love the prodigy but the chems are more diverse they have kick some ass songs as you put it but they also have the beautiful songs the funky songs the folky songs the prodigy is just full on always which can be a bit tiring i mean i got into both of them because of the kick ass stuff but the chems have held my intrest because they have mixed it up a bit thats how i feel anyway.

Live, however, Liam and the boys put on a show that's second to none (except maybe for Tom & Ed). They were THE surprise of Coachella for me and the definite highlight besides the Chems. I wasn't on any illegal substances and I could definetly pick up the amphetamine buzz by osmosis from all the performance (and all the tweakers around me)! It was total bedlam and I've never quite seen any band have an entire crowd by the balls like that. It was 90 minutes of complete and total chaos and it owned me to the bone.
---------------
As I wrote in the Coachella thread:
Liam et al put on a show, no doubt about it!!! The energy in the tent was like nothing I've ever seen and there had to be AT LEAST 6,000 in the tent. The mosh pit was insanely violent and I was quickly pressed right to the first or second row. Liam was rocking the equipment while Keith and Maxim hyped the crowd and traded off songs and parts. A live drummer and guitarist round out the crew. Keith was obviously fucked out of his mind, and actually fell off the stage at one point. Although I'm not a huge Prodigy fan, I could write a page long post about their show, it was that good. They really redeemed the disappointment of NIN, and left me covered in enough bodily fluids of my own and of others that I should probably go get an STD test. Honestly, I've gotten out of the shower less wet than I left the Sahara tent Sunday night.
-----
I definetly have a load of respect for them and eagerly await the new album.

Yes, they do have similar backgrounds but their music is different (even Liam says so in the latest edition of Mixmag). Their live set up is completely different, I feel the Chems are more clean honest and electric and the Prodge are more dirty and grungy (or is that just alot of their fans?! }:-@ ). I love them both but hand on heart, having seen them both live, if I had to choose the one last band to see before I die, I would choose the Prodge. they have alot more energy but maybe having 2 front men and live musicians may be the reason why....
Oh I dunno I've drank 6 pints of crap student beer... I think I'm gonna take my ass to the buzzed posts thread! See ya!

I laughed for hours when I read this.
I don't know how your watch works but in the real world the time between my post and your reply is 1 hour 27 minutes
I am still laughing as we speak.

The Prodigy > The Chemical Brothers
:)
I like them both, but I'm a The Prodigy's fan, not of the chems. ;)
You may not be able to sing a "song of love" to your gf, thinking about The Prodigy, but you can get mad with her and have a great time! :D
DUDE!!! Enjoy them as much 12 november as I will 4 november :D See ya on the MSN...
