be very interesting to see how the line up on saturday shapes up, always wanted to go to a gig in hyde park. i'm in 2 minds whether to go our not, new baby will write most of the summer off. i'm hoping for a uk tour later in the year, but who knows if thats gonna happen? much preffer to see the chems in a small indoors venue than the great outdoors.

Oh no... that leaves only one spot for Open'er Festival and that is Sunday 3th July. The rest of weekend they're booked already

So here it is: Roskilde or Open'er . What will it be?

good line up (except Chase & Status)

but i hate Hyde Park gigs, sound is always weak, and they're usually fully of d#@kheads

Now they play London. They couldn't play when I was living up the edgware road from hyde park in the 3 months I was there. arrggghhh.

Oh well, try again Ryno.

Not that I'd advocate such a thing, but you used to be able to see just slightly above the stage (so pretty much all of the visuals) and get all sound from standing just outside the barriers, and you avoid the dickheads and get to enjoy your own chilled beers. However, as I say, I wouldn't advocate such a thing...

And congrats sneaker on the upcoming addition to the beater family!

Are these Hyde Park festivals really that bad that it would justify skipping a chance to see the Chems live? I'd have three good reasons to go: 1st the Chems (obviously), 2nd AFX (never seen him live) and 3rd I've never been to London during summer. But now I'm hesitating because dubstep (at least that commercially refined mainstream poo) and whatever it is that they seem to call drum'n'bass these days aren't my thing really. Anybody else going?

edited: Ok so I got myself a ticket. Let's hope there'll be some fresh artists not yet announced in the current line up. Looks like I'll be going on my own so if anybody needs company or would not mind me joining theirs then give me a shout! :)

I see Battles are on this line up....hmmmmmmm
I will have to look up if by chance they are coming out with new album soon.
They are quite a fun set live.

as for Aphex, Saw him last year at LED in Victoria Park. that was a blast! old school IDM beats, crazy nuclear protected dancers, me feeling like I actually got the feel of a 90s era rave.....that was awesome.

Thanks for the heads up, Ryno! So many people are complaining about the lineup I was beginning to wonder if there's something wrong with me when I'm still excited. As for the £48 plus fees for a ticket... well it's no biggie considering I need to book flights and accommodation as well. Last summer I paid 55 euros for a very pleasurable 90 minutes of chemical beats. There were only a mediocre Finnish indie group and LCD Soundsystem warming up the crowd that day and neither were very good.

Ok, I don't really care for LCD Soundsystem to begin with. But the lead singer also had a flu, and there were only a handful of people gathered in front of the stage while most were sitting down further away having their drinks in the bars. It was August so even around 8-9 pm when they were on the sun was still up. LCD is a little too disco to play in full sunlight I think. And I can imagine the lack of enthusiasm in the audience had its effect on both the performance and general atmosphere.

Sneaks, congrats mate!

Aphex Twin is something special. I did not see him do a live set, but I did get to see him DJ at Coachella 08. His range is huge. Stupid Coachella had Diplo play right before him, which was so pretty sad in comparison. Not even a M.I.A. cameo could save his set.

Point is, Richard D James is awesome.

@Bos, you really think? I saw Diplo play a few weeks ago as Major Lazer and thought he did an awesome job. It was the best set of the night out of a long set of mediocre or crap bands and DJs (Broken Social Scene (crap), Stars (crap), K-os (actually good), Chromeo (alright)). It seems like Golden Voice is more concerned about who'll be the big act in a tent for a given night and then just throws in all the other names in a pool of 'whose next'.

I saw Aphex Twin in 1995, at a rave held in downtown Los Angeles for the filming of Strange Days. From what little I recall it was good. But he could have been spinning recorded farts and I probably would have been OK with that. Not that I was inebriated, but because the whole experience of raving in downtown LA with thousands of people pretending it was NYE 1999 was pretty fuckin mindblowing.
