I think it's pretty cool - at clubs/concerts/festivals... seeing all those people really enjoying themselves, all feeling the same thing. I imagine being in a crowd like Glastonbury would be almost overwhelming, yet exhilarating at the same time.

I can't wait to read about some firsthand Glasto experiences!

The BBC2 footage only had HBHG and GYH. However, you could hear and see the visuals for a short bit of another new Chems track right at the beginning of the show when the hosts were introducing where they were all over Glastonbury. I think it's that 'underwater' track you talked about - sounded a bit like Star Guitar, had visuals of a human flying with wings (I think). Sounded really good. The main bulk of the set was shown on BBC3, which showed half an hours worth of footage near the end of the programme. The footage, as sneakerbeater mentioned was:

  • HBHG - with added electronic bleeps and extended drum rolls, visuals were the usual text and numbers/maths calculations/watch faces.

  • Get Yourself High - different version, GYH chant sample played, lots of bass, parts re-ordered, visuals were graphical bars like on a hi-fi. GYH started mixing into Music:Response (I think), but they cut away from that bit of the set. When they went back it was EBW6 that was finishing, which started mixing into...

  • Acid Children - 'Acid Children' is the name of the 'you are all my children now' song (according to BBC). This song is quite bare to me. With the older music, there were lots of samples and layers going on. Acid Children sounded a bit different in the sense that it was a 'back to basics', only the necessary sample parts made up the song, quite acidy. The main sample sounds like a human voice saying the words, but it has been slowed down. The visuals had the clown faces we all saw, the faces were laughing and smiling, while the lips moved to the 'you are all my children now' sample, quite scary in some ways 8O . There were also parts where the background was travelling through this tripped out tunnel. Then it started mixing into...

  • Setting Sun - A lot like the usual live version, although a little more stripped down, not quite as intense and again slightly less samples were used I reckon. Slightly different drum sample used for part of the main beat (the one you hear right near the end of the song). Visuals were fire/black and white images laid over. Then it mixed too...

  • Golden Path - Live version, main backing is changed with more bleepy/'twangy' sound (like a honky-tonk piano I think). No main vocals, just the 'aaah' chorus and 'you are forgiven' repeated. Visuals were outer space and a worried looking astronaut. TGP then mixed into the last half/third of Elektrobank, but the programme ended. :(

Although they haven't shown it in its unedited entriety, I thought the set was really good, with even the usual live songs were re-worked. I'm not too sure about Acid Children although I'm sure this is down to my personal taste and the live version may not be the same as the final version. I really want to watch/hear the other parts of the set and see the visuals! :D

I've just watched the 20 minute footage again and I like Acid Children a lot more now. There are lots of drum hits, high frequency noises and cool synth phrases. Nude Night is quite similar if you think about those sorts of sounds, but the song is darker and there are also cool low frequency drum noises/rumbling too. The song is very very good! I think one important thing is that, if you can, you really need to listen to the new material a few times before making judgement. There's still the 'yellow song' as sneakbeater put it, the underwater song as they didn't play it in its entirety, EBW7 and the Tim Burgess collaboration (I can't seem to shake) to hear (these are the confirmed songs we've learnt about over the past few months)! 8)

wouldn't worry about what you heard. hearing them live through the telly is not the best way to be hearing the music. the music not properly EQ'ed to sound sweet on the box, its EQ'ed to to be played on a PA system!!! get yourself high sounded so flat and dull at home. but believe me when you hear it played live it sounds awesome!!! acid children will sound awesome in the right enviroment.

as for the beebs coverage, colin murry said they would be playing more from the chems set over the weekend, so there still some more of the set to be broadcast!!!

i think who ever at the bbc directed the chems recording, must have thought 2 guys behind a mixind desk looks unentertaining. they seem to over use the special effects that they used on top of the pops 20 years ago!!! that kaleidoscope effect was used to over kill!!!

back to the acid era? it never went away for pausebuttonaudio ;)

absolutely spot on with your bbc assesment sneaks.

gyh sounded terrible on the telly, the limiters were kicking in to buggery and it just sounded flat, but as you say on a loud system its gonna shake it - i bet when the bass came in it kicked like a mule in your belly and it sounded phat as fuck!! i like what they did on GYH using an acid line for the middle 8 bass bit (which was the main bit of the switch remix) - sounded damn funky.

i know esactly what you mean about the special fx, they were so annoying!! i was trying to perve at what synths they were using and they kept on dividing the screen into 4!! bastards!! :)

I wonder if iguanapunk is having the time of his life or flat on his face from all the booze?

X-D X-D X-D shalll we take bets? im keeping a look out on the telly for a geezer with a 2 stripe beard - if he's upright i'll let you know.

man, im really missing not being at glasters this year :( - ALL my mates got tickets - i will not allow this to happen next year!! :)

It is actually 'please forgive me, I never meant to hurt you' that was used. The thing that annoys me is that they showed over an hour of the Jaxx's set (a group I like), but they only showed 20mins of the Chems set (my no.1 band)! }:-@ However, it's better than nothing and I'm going to try and listen to/watch as much Glastonbury audio/video highlights that the BBC show (if they do) :? .
