James Holroyd
James Holroyd, started plying his trade back in 1991 in the heady days of the original Back to Basics at Leeds' Music Factory. He was introduced to the decks playing a mixture of funk, house, disco and hip hop, and by 1992 his unique style and cheeky personality had secured him a job as resident.
In the meantime, a move to Manchester (to attend college) strengthened his contacts with Manchester's bubbling underground club scene. In 1993 he joined forces with the Jockey Slut Magazine team to form a house and techno based club night called Bugged Out!, and in 1997 this weekly night earnt itself the Muzik Magazine Award for Club of the Year. James is still resident at Bugged Out!, which has now moved to Cream in Liverpool and become a monthly night.
Connections made in Manchester had also lead to Boggy hooking up with the Chemical Brothers. Tom and Ed were so impressed with Holroyd's DJ style that they invited him to tour with them in England from 1995 and then America from 1997.
In 1998 Basics reopened its doors at The Mint Club in Leeds and James was once again invited to spin as resident DJ alongside Ralph Lawson. Gaining popularity as one of the best underground house emporiums in the UK, Basics soon became Muzik Magazine Underground Club of the Year 1998.
More recently, Boggy has visited Japan, Malaysia and Australia as part of a 'Manchester in Malaysia' arts and culture exchange in preparation for the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games. has just returned from South America with the Chemical Brothers Surrender 1999 Tour.
