I don't think they should try to. I think they should just do something thats different, and that could be something revolutionary.

I think they have been trying to do different things over their 10 year span - you can hear this from record to record to record. I've heard them say The Golden Path is apparently something (probably along the lines of style and approach) that they've always wanted to do musically. Maybe not with an entire record, but with just one song maybe. Who knows, we'll just have to wait and hear what the new record brings.

I don't think they should try to emulate a certain style, or pigeonhole themselves into an IDM slot or any other kind of music like they did with big beat (even though I think that was more a coincidence, or even accidental, that they pioneered that particular genre) I feel that would be limiting to the art they create, and we can agree they are much bigger than that as artists to limit themselves in such a way. I've personally always admired that they have been able to transgress boundaries, or even bust genres so to speak...

I agree to an certain extent. Im saying they should keep that big beat feel but meld it with something a little more intelligent than 4x4 beats. Now if they went to far and went completely weird, that would raise some concerns.

What, exactly, makes 4/4 beats unintelligent? In fact, using 4/4 beats can be very intelligent - a careful decision, especially where the 'Bros use them.

Not unintelligent, Just the use of a kick or snare in a 4x4 set can make it a bit boring. I dislike listening to a trancey 4x4 track with a kick and snare that you can predict being their.

x=kick o=snare

x - - o - - x - - o

Something along those lines. Sorry for using the term un intelligent, I was searching for the word boring :)

agree! but the "halfway between the gutter and the stars"-album isnt that bad actually in my opinion! it grows on you! and it has those "old-school-norman" moments, for example "mad flava", "ya mama" and "weapon of choice"!

and the house-tunes are quality music!

You seem to miss what I meant. Any beat can be boring and/or annoying. Trust me. Its the execution that matters.

To be perfectly honest, it's really really sad that Chems don't take full advantage of 80-minutes CDs. Their albums are like...55 mins (CWU), 50 mins (EPD)... The longest is DYOH - 62 mins.

Just look at Underworld's albums - only "A Hundred Days Off" is under 70 minutes. Look at Orbital albums - never less than 65 minutes. And all those are extremely great albums! They don't sacrifice quality to the quantity.

I'm sure Chems are capable of producing great long albums...

True... but the Chems are masters are live shows. The CDs we buy are merely the 'radio playable' modules they use to CREATE those live shows.

Someone has asked a semplification of the term 4X4. Well, it's easy: think of a rally car; if it hits a big stone it may crash its axis and get three only wheels working: yeah, that's rock music; if the car hits a side wall while it's going out of street, it will probably lose the 2 wheels of same axis: sure, that's hip hop music; then just try with your utopic rally car to hit a stone and then stop against a wall with the side of the couple of wheel safe from the stone that now has got broken anyway: no, that's no kind of music; if during your challenge session you get to dodge a stone and then the wall, but while doing this, you fly down on the onlookers all your 4 wheels, but non only, they'll got stuck and so you got it: it's house. Just screams and warm blood!

is it clear now?
