I've been plagued by some pangs of guilt here and there too, I admit. I'm human... and am prone to weakness. But hearing it now does not in anyway make me less excited for the actual release. The real deal is on its way and having heard this makes me want it more, at its abosolute best which is in the cards. I just don't think we need to be guilted into justifying how many copies we're going to purchase... We all know where we stand with ourselves.

From the Saturate thread:

Saturate sounds like a cool name for EBW 8. I don't think the placement in the album was good though. being surrounded by DIA and All Rights Reversed

Ummm...

its kinda weird though, cause it doesn't show the tracklist, doesn't have the artwork, doesn't have ANY info on the album at all.

TJ - good duck! ;)

Btw - that $43 is the real album - the one we've been fooled with is the leftover material. Shhh.. it's a big secret.

I certainly hope the "Special Edition" isn't as silly as the CWU "gatefold" which was the only basic difference (oh, and some nifty inside art) all for more money. Not all that worth it... Perhaps some sort of bonus insert disc? That would rock.

I got the Come With Us double vinyl for like 40 Aussie dollars, and it was THE deal! Amazing artwork - I LOVE that cover most of the recent ones, but the new one grew on me (IT'S CREEPY!!) a lot last evening after I toked up.

Damn, I'd pay anything to get the new vinyl fast - my only fuckup is getting duped by online stores who charge me a bomb anyway for shipping it here.

I'm so glad I'm a sociopath.

I listen to it 4 or 5 times a day, and don't even notice that I haven't paid for it yet.

Here's an idea, I know someone has Ed's email laying around... let's all send that person $10, and then she can paypal all the money to Ed. I know it won't be a lot in the grand scheme of things, but, you know, maybe it could buy the drinks (or other things) one night.

Sooo... this album has inspired me to invest in some better headphones (nothing outragous mind, but better than the crappy $15 TDK ones I have).

Just listened to A Modern Midnight Converation. Out of all the songs on this album, admittedly this one took some warming to. Though I felt closer to this song after last weekend I had in the desert which has been one of the best days I've had in a long long time, hearing it just now I've detected some subtleties I hadn't noticed before. Like kwiddle said a page or so back, you won't believe your ears when you hear this. It's absolutely stunning, with everything going on in that song. The panning, intriciacies and delicate layering make my head swim...

Okay, I've finally given in and listened to the album for the first time, after having it on my harddrive for days. I haven't read any of the discussion threads (incl. this one, which I'll read after I post) because I wanted to hear it with fresh ears and no biases. Overall, I found the album a little uneven. Where it's good, it's fantastic. Where it's not that great, I think I'll find myself hitting 'skip' sometimes on future listens, although I'll certainly give more opportunities to see if the tracks grow on me. (I'd probably say that's a fair comment about Push the Button as well. Some of my favourite tracks ever are on that album; some still have no effect on me.)

No Path to Follow

-Cool little intro, lends the appropriate ominous overtones to the album.

We Are the Night

-Funky, quirky, I've heard some of these sounds in previous Chems productions. Sounds like twinkling stars in an obsidian sky. Reminds me of the first time I took mushrooms, the visuals I saw. In fact, the whole song reminds me of a beautiful mushroom trip. Definetly feeling the psychedelic vibe. Love the vocal. Throbbing bassline is soothing and propulsive. Tune is reminiscent of 'The Sunshine Underground'. Unexpected to have this sort of track this early in the album. Loving it.

All Rights Reserved

-Can hear the influence of The Klaxons on the instrumental much more than many previous collaborations. In fact, this track suggests that a Chems remix of a Klaxons tune wouldn't be a bad thing. Or some production on their next album. Dig the instrumental break at 3:00, nasty evil synth line.

Saturate

-Yeah, I love this one. Right from the opening I feel my heart soar and I'm anticipating the changes from the EBW version. Hmmmm.... no changes? This is somewhat unexpected and a touch disappointing, but the song is simply fantastic so I'll forgive them for leaving it alone.

Do It Again

-Still banging, still making me shimmy. My admiration for this one is already on record. It's killer. My favourite track on the album so far. All I wanted was a little fun, and I got it. I'll play it again later.

Das Spiegal

-Initial connection is to 'The Big Jump'. Not sure what I think of this one so far. It's a little quirky for me. Some cool sounds and elements but I'm not sure I'm really feeling the arrangement. Seems more suitable for a b-side. Second half of the track is really pretty and I like it a lot more.

The Salmon Dance

-Amusing, very different. Again, not really feeling it. Some cool stuff, like the synths, but I can see it being a track I skip a lot.

Burst Generator

-Back on track, I'm liking the intro, very FC/Kahuna bleepy. Solid build. Yeah, I'm liking this one a lot. The "airplane taking off" bit is nifty. A new sound for the Brothers, but it's good. The outro/mix into A Modern Midnight Conversation is great.

A Modern Midnight Conversation

-Finally! A coherent mix between tracks and a real build of the energy levels. Intro reminds me a lot of Discovery-era Daft Punk, which I think is a good thing. Vocal is powerful. A soaring, majestic track with a heavy dose of teh fOOnk.

Battle Scars

-Creepy vocal intro. Funky little gem. Very 60s. I feel like the album is now taking shape.

Harpoons

-Spacey, underwater. A neat transition.

The Pills Won't Help You Now

-Beautiful. Stunning. I don't know what to say other that this is truly wonderful.

I'm interested to see how the album will grow on me with further listens. Right now I feel it's got some real gems (Do It Again, The Pills Won't Help You Now) and some real questionable tunes (The Salmon Dance). It certainly feels a less cohesive album than any of their pre-PTB efforts, but is filled to the brim with exciting new sounds and directions. I need to hear it on a better setup for a true evaluation, but I'll give it thumbs up for now. Thanks Tom & Ed.

heh, thanks, MX. You know, I've been AWOL for so long, I figured I might as well make a decent post.

(Giving it a second listen and then I may not listen to it again until release day. The title track is killer and All Rights Reserved really would shore up the back half of The Klaxons album well.)

I've also decided that the transition (or lack thereof, more specifically) between All Rights Reserved and Saturate really lessens the impact of Saturate. EBW 8 was transcendent when I first heard it because of all the anticipation and build and release. Here I find it almost anticlimactic and while it's an unbelievable track, I don't like its location on the album.

^ I totally agree with you, saturate feels so out of place!

Same again with Do It Again, very jarring shift in moods that I don't find appealing. But I love the immediacy of the track and it gets me moving within a matter of seconds and the album is back on track again.

I'm liking Das Spiegal a LOT more on second listen, but don't think it should be the second single in the States as has been rumoured. (Probably All Rights Reserved should get that treatment.)
