Man held over alleged Internet suicide plot
Officials uncertain whether plan is hoax
KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon (CNN) -- An Oregon man is in custody on suspicion of trying to arrange a mass suicide on Valentine's Day via an Internet chat room, police said.
Police have arrested 26-year-old Gerald Krien of Klamath Falls, Oregon, on charges of solicitation to commit murder, Klamath County Sheriff Timothy Evinger said.
Investigators have seized Krien's computer, and authorities are trying to determine if the 32 people who appear to be involved in the pact are real and where to find them, Evinger said. The plan appears to include using webcams and the Internet to coordinate the suicides February 14, he said.
Authorities do not know if the agreement is legitimate or a hoax, but they are investigating because one of the parties is a mother who also plans to kill her two young children, Evinger said.
If the plan is not a hoax, the investigation could reveal that more than 32 people are involved, Evinger said.
"The scary part is with just a name and intent on the Web, you can draw in people worldwide," Evinger said. "It doesn't surprise me that we could be just scratching the surface ... the tip of the iceberg here."
Evinger said he would not disclose how those involved planned to carry out the suicides. However, he said there doesn't appear to be any religious motivation, as has been the case with cult suicides.

Cool! ^_^ I've never been to one of thier concerts before since I'm still in school and live in the least likely state ever for them to play in. I wish we could clone Tom & Ed and put them as concert slaves that play in the US of A even though we don't deserve it.

hehe, Tom and Ed clones!!
I'm thinking more along the lines of Futurama. You know, the heads in jars thing. I guess you'd have to know Futurama to know what I mean anyway. ;)
TEH watcher, whereabouts are you from? You need to see the Chems live! All roads lead to Coachella - and the festival isn't sold out yet! There's still time!
And *we* deserve the Chems to play, even though we're just simpleminded folk from the U.S. of A. There might even be hope for the Chems yet - things aren't as bad as they seem. People still like them here, at least according to Billboard:
Dance Chart
#1 - weeks on chart: NEW - Push The Button
Dance Singles
#4 - weeks on chart: NEW - Galvanize
Hot Club Play
#27 (up from 31) - weeks on chart: 2 - Galvanize
Billboard 200
#59 - weeks on chart: NEW - Push The Button
OK, so 59 ain't exactly up there in the Billboard 200, but it's a start, and it's within the top 100 which is not bad for any electronic artist in the US. The Chems seem to be tearing up the dance charts, and that's good news (hopefully) for the upcoming U.S. dates. I wish I knew the demographics of all this. Billboard is quite vague, especially in their dinky articles related to dance music.

I'd love to see an episode of futurama featuring tom and Ed, just like the one they did with the beastie boys. Futurama Rocks. it is soooo funny.
I've seen someting on the interent about some cartoon featuring the Chems : it si the sotory of a gut who changes job at each episode, nad in this epsiode he's a roadie at a festival and the chemical brothers are involved, with "the ultimate beat" on a hard drive. I didn't manage to watch the epsiode, tho...

sneakerbeater Escribi:
galvanize has been in the top 10 for 4 weeks now. its pretty unusual for a chems single to stay in the chart. normally they peek and fall quickly.
*sigh* Here in the states they don't even play it on the radio.
Damn americans. Like I need to her hoobastinks again.

That futurama episode sounds alot like the one with Beck... Muwhahaha, that was some good times y'all (hint as to the region of living). "Wow Bender, that was an awsome 45 minute washboard solo!" :P
