at one point i had:
lesbians demanding diana ross
request from the best man to keep it 'mum and dad friendly'
an italian itching for some pendulum d n b raggamuffin
a request for the killers
my mates wanting ghostbusters
plus the usual girls crying, guests 'oh i dj, can i have a go please', and the mornic staff (disco double decks dave or something) who after being requested that we turn it down a bit from the bride kept turning it up :S
and on top of this i managed to polish off an entire bottle of rum, plus shots all day drinking etc
however, theres was always a room full of people just dancing and having a good time anyway :P
(oh i managed to get all of the above in as well, except for the killers bit :))
fucked tofay though, 5 hours sleep all weekend - badabing!

i had to dj at a wedding at a chateua in france weekend just gone. frankly this was 1 millino times harder than playing to a sweaty backroom to a bunch of pilled up loons.

that explains your text then. I'd tell the people asking for the killers and pendulum to hop it and cut up diana ross 'my old piano' with the ghostbusters dub in a 3 click flare/crab/sssssscratch pervert type way*
* I can't scratch
responding politely to requests and fending off would be dj's is a great skill....and something I don't miss from doing bars on a saturday night for cash.
top five requests
"have you got any garage/R&B mate"
"can I have a go I'm a dj"
"can I look through your records"
"have you got anything vaguely welsh"
"can I have a vodka and coke please"

irish - sadly thats what most people want at weddings - somethign they know and can sing along with. even if your playing wicked funk/disco tunes if they dont know it they wont like it, espcecially the oldies.
having said that, did manage to play hey boy hey girl into jaques your body, and also it began in africa into josh wick higher states of consiousness - at which point the best 'woman' (theyre very boho this couple ;)) came up and shouted 'its a fucking wedding!' at me and greg hahaha classic

Would that be The GLC?
no not GLC..I'm not sure what they would have made of that!!
they were being clever so I pulled out burly chassis 'spinning wheel'...
maybe that could be the next concept. dj's who pack their record bag by country. axis presents 'jeff mills deep serbian-folk' THE DVD

Our usual Dj for most weddings (If they haven?t decided to go with a band) gets paid shit loads or whacking on a burnt cd choosing a track then fades in and out with another one. No mixing at all required and he gets a free meal for just sitting there. We don?t even get that. But all the family love it. All the usual classics at weddings come out like Dirty Dancing?s ?Time of your life?, Lionel Richie?s ?All night long? and of course New York New York. If you know what all the family is going to like then I suggest just shoving an Ipod there and pressing play, heaps cheaper.
The one thing I hate about weddings is the per dinner drinks where we direct people to the first floor (usually at around 6.30) for an half an hour cocktail service then we send them down stairs again to the ballroom for the reception. Every week someone will come straight up and try to give me their coat/jacket to give to the clock room and I?ll be there holding a tray for drinks and I?ll have to send the guest down stairs to give it to the concierge. Then they?ll come back up again and ask ?so the toilets are around here??
?No Sir/Madame, They are actually down stairs? and they?ll crack the shits like you did the plumping in the place. Though the most annoying thing I get asked is about the drinks I have on my tray. Like I?ll have a red wine in a wine glass not that hard to recognise but every week someone will come up and ask if it?s coke. Damn Stupid. Then you get the wankers who point to the glass and think their smart by going ?that?s a champagne!? well done! No one could have guessed that when it?s bubbling wine in a champagne flute, oh no. Though the one thing I can?t stand the most is when they request ?Can I have something soft?? No you can?t! This is a wedding you either go hard or go home!! I don?t know why but a guest asking that just irritates the hell out of me so much. Damn Softies!

X-D hahahaha, a day in the life of kwiddle!! That's one of the best posts I've read all damn week! So true about some of the obvious choices dj's play at peoples' weddings. And your "crack the shits like you actually did the plumbing in the place" good lord, that's great haha.
There's nothing quite like dealing with the general public. It's enough to make a person quit a job because of client stupidity alone. I propose on your last day at this job you actually do say, "No you can't have something soft. This is a wedding you either go hard or go home!!"
Thanks kwiddle that was a great read!

Moby - Go (Unknown electro house remix)
Audiojack - Robot
Royksopp - What Else is There (Trentmoller remix)
Tiga - Louder Than a Bomb
New Order - Blue Monday
Plus a couple of familiar electro house classics that I can't name (or Shazam, as there was no signal!!)

Saw Lottie last night, absolutly rocked it! At one point during her set, I was the only one on the front section of the dance floor (kinda hard to describe the venue, but there are 2 parts to the dance floor, with a podium between them), but I didn't care, the tunes kept me there. And I was sober, and on my own - that's how good the tunes were!! Highlights were:
Moby - Go (Unknown electro house remix)
Audiojack - Robot
Royksopp - What Else is There (Trentmoller remix)
Tiga - Louder Than a Bomb
New Order - Blue Monday

I think thats probably the Trentmoller remix, really good.

Now for the weekend - tonight we're going out for a friend's birthday to a Cuban restaurant which means mojitos are in my near future. And tomorrow we're making the family rounds and going to visit stash's batty old grandmother. After that we're stopping by this place called Old World Village which is this ultra cheesy faux German-esque mall that's dead all year yound except for this month because of Octoberfest. I'm not excited about the beer, but I am excited about the dauschund races. I don't know why, but I've always wanted to watch a bunch of weenie dogs racing around this cheesy village, I think it'll be funny!

If you're willing to subject yourself to crowding, groping, and being asked for drugs, I recommend this night heartily.
