The wheel improved our lives, so did the phone and internet. Facebook doesn't.

It's not just FB that causes social problems, I have seen people throw their lives away cause they became a Guild leader or something like that on Guild Wars or World of Warcraft and spend every waking moment living, breathing and playing the game. Now that is sad ... or pathetic, whichever word you choose.

Not to mention that it increases the speed of communication as well.

My two cents, Facebook is useful enough to use it. You can log into websites using it, it's good for organizing events and connecting with friends/family. Sure, we can all just send mail, but that's not convienent at all.
I'm not on the site more than 15 minutes each day and I don't need to be either. Revealing every detail of your life is not what I and millions of other people use facebook for, and in that way FB is, as Krisper put it, just a website.

Let me tell you, I have a cousin that I hadn't seen in 10 years, because her mother did not keep in touch with us. I didn't have any way to contact her, no phone nmber, did not know where she lived...Iresearched her name on facebook, contacted her, we got in touch again, and I was eventually able to meet her again, you know in REAL life.
That wouldn't have happened if she weren't using facebook.
Now, the thing you neeed to know is that facebook is not only for friends'n stuff. A lot of major companies realized that facebook was a useful tool and therefore a lot of artists have their official facebook page. Just click on "Like" and you will be informed of all the news concerning your favorite artists without having to visit their website.
Of course, in a lot of cases, bands do not manage their official facebook page by themselves, it's often done by the record industry, but a lot of lesser-known artists use their official facebook pages by themselves, so you can ask them a question and in most cases get an answer from the artists themselves. I'm not saying you're becoming "friends" with artists, just that you can speak with them. It would be almost impossible without facebook, a few years ago we had to send letters to a fan club or so and did not have any chance to get an answer.
Get it ? It makes thing EASIER. That might not be a technological revolution but it sure makes things a lot easier, and that's something you can't deny.
The only valable argument against facebook is the privacy one, but as long as you do not post content that could be used against yourself, there's no fear to have.
