Just read this here:

"It's like, if you buy an album by the Chemical Brothers or the Prodigy having heard the single, you know, more or less, that the album is going to be the sound of that single, repeated 10 times. We're more haphazard."

So says Simon Ratcliffe from Basement Jaxx. That's such a fucked up comment imo; he could have explained it alot better.

Oh yeah, because Galvanize and Hold Tight London sound so much like each other it makes my head spin. Come Inside and Close Your Eyes, come on, they're the exact same song for chrissake! I mean, all the songs on Push The Button are so samey, there's no variation at all!!

Maybe Simon didn't exactly mean just that, but he could've been a little less haphazard with his comment imo.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

That interview makes them sound really arrogant.

that's ok, I've always found Basement Jaxx extremely gay...... and not in the good 'Has sex with men' way.

the quote makesclear why their tunes are always filled up with senseless samples. i reckon they've gotten arrogant because of the grammy they won.

They're also one of the only dance acts from the 90s still doing something interesting - and commercial.

this is why i don't really like them, they have some good tunes, but they play to the masses. and that isn't very hard *looks to the crazy frog* imo they are a group who have a lot of hit or miss songs. they say that they arent excited to get the headlining slot at glastonbury, from that article they seem to be a bit up themselves.

Before I respond to this I would like to say how much I love The Chemical Brothers, they are the best band in the world!

However Basement Jaxx are fucking ace and personally I think there live shows sometimes have a slight edge over the chems in terms of what there is to watch on stage, despite there music being no where near as good and Ed and Tom playing the better music. Jaxx visuals are great and there very entertaining.

Simon was stupid to say that! The Chems allways show respect for other artist and never say that kind of thing. Clearly the chems have lots of variation and different tracks for example Left Right sounds nothing like Surface to air. However maybe when you compare this to a Jaxx album you can see they draw in more styles and influences to each individual track. Despite this I still prefere all the Chems albums over any Jaxx album.

It sucks when bands have a slight dig at each other, but i still think that little is meant by it and that the Jaxx are not trying to slate the chems. Theres allways going to be bands saying things like this and there will allways be band rivalries, for example Prod allways seem to look down on Chems, Faithless don't like Jaxx, and Jaxx Don't like FBS. But im just happy that there all making good music.

It would be cool if they were like Hip-Hop acts, like Fifty Cent and Da Game, and then Tom and Ed could do a drive by and pop a cap in the Jaxx asses...

Or maybe the interviewer doesn't like the Chems and saw an opportunity to start a fuzz when Simon might have mentioned something about comparing other bands with Basement Jaxx? Ever thought of that? I don't think BJ are so stupid to fuck over other well-selling UK dance bands.

I know for a fact that isn't true! I've read and heard many interviews were Liam said that the Chems are the only real deal in that whole big beat scene. And he still confirms they are one of the must excellent producers. Nothing but respect for the Chems.

What Simon says about the Chems is very lame.

Yeah exactly, the media like to hype the rivalry.

I didnt say it was true Joslyn, I just pointed out something that could seem to be true. Even If Howlett does respect the chems, alot of prod fans look down on chems, some suggest its because chems n prod started big beat and it would of carried on but the chems moved away from it, whilst the prod carried on.

hmmm.......basement jaxx .......BJ <---- yeah

their songs are so fucking simplistic compared the the brothers, not to mention the soul lacking. yeah, they can get funky and all, but geees...there is no comparison. Don't even try and compare them on the diveristy tip. Just won't work.

compare Exit Planet Dust to to Remedy...... X-D

I am hoping this was all tungincheek.

Ironically, Remedy is one of the most "samey" albums I've ever bought. Not sure I've ever really given it a full listen-through.

The Jaxx have some catchy tunes, and I think they have their time and place in music for sure.

I am not a big fan of the Jaxx, the only songs of theirs I do have are on Astralwerks samplers. Their music just doesn't cut it for me. But to each their own, I guess. I'm hoping it was tongue in cheek. It was really a small thing for Simon to say, really, but I stilol don't think it was a nice thing to say. Keeping in mind with Slipvin's comment, if Simon wanted to get nasty I'm sure he could've and no doubt the media would've dined out on it.

I agree with what you said about diversity and soul regarding the Chems. Those are just two of the reasons why I love the Chemical Brothers so.

On a side note, I always thought there was more a friendly rivalry between the Jaxx and the Chems. I can't remember where I read it, and it was a long time ago - but someone asked the Chemical Brothers who they would like to fight if they were on Celebrity Deathmatch, and they said The Basement Jaxx. I thought that was pretty funny...
