I've decided now is a good time for me to get some old singles (CD format only, most of which are 'deleted' and are not available in the shops, so online is the only option; I don't really want to get them from ebay. I'd rather get them from an online store).

These are the singles I definitely want:
  • Star Guitar (UK)

  • Song for Shelter/Ya Mama - Fatboy Slim (has Chems mix)
I really like Base6 and the Shelter remix. However, the singles are quite expensive, especially for one track. Is it still good to go for it?

These are the ones I am slightly unsure about:

  • Loops of Fury EP (UK)

I already have Loops of Fury from the greatest hits bonus disc, but I quite like The Best Part of (Breaking Up) and I've heard GUOILT (6 min version) is really good. However, online, this release is really expensive, but is it worth it?

  • It Began in Afrika (UK)

There are two versions of IBIA and of course Hot Acid Rhythm 1. I have the album version of IBIA, so is the 8 min version on this single good? Also I'm not to sure whether I fully like the B-side. Is that worth it too? Quite a few places still have this single online, so I get the feeling now may be a good time to buy it before it gets too rare.

  • She is Suffering/Greatest Hits - The Manic Street Preachers - La Tristesse Durera and Faster remixes

I really like the Tristesse remix and the Faster remix. However, I have heard these on the Manics greatest hits bonus CD, not the She is Suffering single. I think the single has different mixes. Is the single good or should I wait for the greatest hits to come down in price? (It is also more widely available, although I don't know if it's practical buying a greatest hits just for two mixes :? )
And these are the singles I want, but only the US version:
  • Get Yourself High EP (USA)

  • Music: Response EP (USA)

I really want to get these singles as they are better than the UK versions (more tracks and some exclusive audio). However, are these hard to get in the US, since they were released a while ago? Or should I just import them from somewhere online (in the UK)? Would they be at a good price either way?
I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I'm sure some of you who have tried buying stuff before or already own these releases and so can give some good advice! :D

here is my advice from purchasing chems singles from web etc.

I went with amazon just cause of security really.I used .com instead of .co.uk as it was cheaper for me for the stuff i wanted.

star guitar you should be able to get easily second hand on it and it is definately worth it for base 6, song for shelter remix i got at acd fair for ten sterling on the camber sands collection,as for loops of fury I got it second hand off amazon for $4 well worth it, the manics remixes are very expensive I haven't seen a reasonable price for it yet.

ibia you should be able to get second hand i got it for a euro.

the best advice i can give you is to mix and match amazon .com and .co.uk for there stuff as you will get the best deal.

What's wrong with ebay?

I've got half my chems singles from there (the other half I bought at the time, from HMV), and all my Orbital singles. A lot of cheap stuff on there, each one can be like 50p + P&P if you're lucky.

you HAVE to get loops of fury, just for the fact that it has the full version of Get Up On It Like This!

I have got all the singles, part ones and twos, it's worth it, chems b sides are never a let down my friend.

Amazon's a good choice, quite secure, personally, I don't trust e-bay, I know millions use it, but I will never be one of them.

OK, Star Guitar is a good one, great song and Base 6 is a slamming track, a stellar b-side and well worth it just to have. The Song For Shelter remix is great as well, like what they did with the vocal (I actually didn't pick it up until a few months ago, on a Fatboy disc called 'Camber Sands') I also like Fatboy Slim, so this purchase was a win-win situation for me.

Loops of Fury is an absolute must-have!!! Get it... now...

It Began In Afrika - gotta have the extended version... it was originally released extra early because there was a buzz about it and everyone wanted it. Wasn't it released as a limited edition deal because that song wasn't intended as a single? Anyway. It's got more ka-ka-ka-ka-ka's and the song sounds a bit more rounded out than on the Come With Us version.

The US versions of Get Yourself High and Music:Response - I've seen them about in stores out where I live in California, so my guess is, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting these items.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

While we're talking about US versions, get Elektrobank if you can, it's got "these beats were made for breaking" on it, it's a great track, if you love DYOH then don't hesitate

The version of Get Up On It Like This is just great as well as Chemical Beats which is also on the lp. Why don't have the brothers this extented song on their DYOH album????????

Firstly, a big thank you for your responses! This is surely what message forums are about! :D :D

I like Fatboy Slim too, but I don't feel I have to own a copy of the other remixes, it is only really the Chems mix that I am after (which is why I'm likely to buy the UK version). I have seen it for a good price at opalmusic.com, but their support e-mail isn't working and I have an important query! }:-@ As for the US releases, I may be going on holiday to NY soon, so I might have to wait and get it in stores there (instead of importing). But it's promising news to hear those CDs are still floating around!

Okay, I'll reconsider this release! When you mention Amazon, do you mean the official release or buying it second hand from them?

This might be a single I get sometime in the future, as I feel I would only be buying it for the Dust Brothers mix and that track.

The cheapest I have seen the Manic's disc is 17 approx, so I won't be getting that anytime soon. I have decided I will try to buy Star Guitar, Song for Shelter remix, Loops of Fury and IBIA. I will have to wait and see what happens about the US ones. One problem is that I have surfed some records shops and either: 1) They have stock of most of the CDs I want but they are expensive (eil.com) or 2) The store charges good prices but only has say one or to of the discs. I may have to mix and match and see what happens.

If only buying this stuff could be slightly easier! ;-)

I bought the second version of the Elektrobank single from another person, I think that's the only way now as the originals have been deleted. Just make sure you are buying from a trusted buyer, and the CD is in good nick.

I would like to thank you for recommending Amazon, 'cos I probably wouldn't have gone near those 'used and new' links!

I received Music:Response US EP today, was charged 5.80 which is a big saving compared to the 13.99 that Amazon were asking for it. The disc is brand new, sealed in plastic! Also beautiful CD artwork. Freak of the Week is brilliant, made up of some really different noises, and that infectious drum solo! Enjoyed is a pumping remix, very psychedelic! OoC live focuses mainly on the instrumental part of the song, although I love it when they mess up the vocals to make them sound near incomprehensible! There are also lots of cool synth noises (near the end it sounds like one of the synths has gone mad) and new/extended drum beats! Then the music mixes into Got Glint and the transition has the beats from Elektrobank (I don't know if the songs were played in that order, if it wasn't it's a good bit of editing). Again, some new drum beats at the break, then the best bit is when the low frequency noise part comes in (after everything being quiet), sounds like a really distorted electric guitar! The song then gets some noises mixed from Playground near the end. The CD also works on a PC, so you can watch the video for LFB, see some rare pics of Tom and ED and read a track by track description of the music on this EP from Tom and Ed (MR was going to be called 'Do the Funky Computer' and Freak of the Week is made up of recorded samples left over from other music). All in all, perfect! :D

iguanapunk- Music:response US EP has.
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

Today I received Loops of Fury and Ya Mama/Song for Shelter (contains Chems mix). LOF is brilliant, I especially like (the best part of) breaking up as it 'mixes' straight from Loops of Fury and of course GUOILT with the many, many drum sections (and a nice buildup intro too). The Dave Clarke mix is also a nice touch, with quite a catchy re-edit. I was most excited to get the SFS remix as I think this is one of their best remixes, nice structure, a really clever cut-up of the vocals and the music is quite low frequency, I think the only high frequency part is the hi-hat samples. I got LOF for 2.75, but it is used and not brand new (the packaging is quite worn), however, I don't know if you can get this single for a good price new as it is quite rare. SFS was 1.90 and was in the same condition as you'd find it in the shop. :D

nice, that SFS remix is cool as - reminds me of the glint parties at heaven that track, sounds ace on a big system - very bassy as you say.

Re: Manic Street Preachers mixes

The mixes on "She Is Suffering" are the same as on Greatest Hits I think. There is a slightly different edit on WipEout, but that's something else... :)

I thought I would make a post to this when I received all the CDs, so here we go....

TheChemicalBrother Escribi:

I got LOF for 2.75, but it is used and not brand new (the packaging is quite worn)...SFS was 1.90 and was in the same condition as you'd find it in the shop.

I refunded both these CDs as I felt the packaging for LOF was in a worse condition than described (yellowing etc.) and SFS sounded a bit quiet and it was not in the original case. So I got the Camber Sands EP as it is far better with other interesting tracks, especially for Fatboy Slim fans. The CD was sealed and delivered v.quickly even though it was from Canada. Got it for around 5. No problem with the sound quality, I feel good now that I finally own this remix. 8) I also received a much better version of LOF, the packaging is in amazing quality considering this CD was released in '96, the CD has a few scratches but plays fine. It cost roughly 2.75

Now, I also received IBIA for 10p, CD is fine although case has a few light scratches. Full version of IBIA is brilliant, I love the drum beat in the break of the song. Hot Acid Rhythm 1 is really cool although does take a while to get going. Really fits in nicely on this single. I wonder what the Eve collaboration would've sounded like 8) .

Finally, Star Guitar, with the one track I was waiting for most, and it took a week to deliver! However, it was well worth the wait. Base6 is just out of this world. They managed to keep this song fresh and interesting for a full 6 minutes, I was blown away when I heard this for the first time on my hi-fi. This could possibly be my favourite Chems track, let alone B-Side. This is so good it should've been on the album. IBIA could mix into Base6, then the next track could've been the full version of Galaxy Bounce. I got this single for 4.65, a bit expensive but the CD and case are pristine and brand new.

One thing to mention with the Chems singles are the beatutiful artwork, the skier, the two heads on SG and the interesing imagery on both sides of IBIA.

Now, I am going to make a very special compilation CD with the remixes and B-Sides I own! 8) 8) ;-) :D

Heheh cool. Yep, Base 6 is brilliant! I remember after I saw the Chems play in 2002 in Brisbane I had Base 6 up loud in the car in the city, and I kept turning it up and up until I realised it was BLOODY LOUD as my ears were fubar after the gig. Didn't matter though, I could feel the bass and so could those on the streets at midnight. Awesome night.

1 2 3 4 5 6 BASS! BownTisBownTisBownTisBownTis... and so on. :)
