Gas has hit $2.85/gallon in some of the suburbs of Philly, and is even lower in southern New Jersey. That's right, there is a "2" in front of that.

We must be getting near a major election or something. I guess I can just forgive and forget about the last eight years if the Republicans and their buddies in the oil companies are nice enough to give us cheap gas in the days before the election. Oh, wait....$2.85 would have sounded like a science fiction price eight years ago, and here I am thankful and using words like "cheap"!

Change is coming my friends...it won't be overnight, but it all starts with a vision.

I was -shocked- to see gas at $2.95 in Portland.

It's all about demand. This is what should have been happening to control gas prices--the fact is that people are driving less and ordering less so people are shipping less.

Here's an interesting tidbit about oil prices if anyone's interested:

http://www.bloomberg...dO_k&refer=home

I know us folks in the US pay much less for gas than people in Europe do, so I'm always a bit hesitant to moan too loudly about how much it is a gallon. I think part of why I was so vocal about gas prices in the bullshit thread wasn't so much the cost per gallon, but how much the costs rose within a single day and how gravely that affected the wallet. It was like inflation on steroids. It's one thing to have gas prices fluctuate on a day to day basis but it was downright shocking to see the costs raise .25 or more a gallon in a single afternoon.

when I started driving around 6 years ago, gas was $1.50 a gallon and expensive.

Gas is now $3 a gallon, and considered cheap.

LOL

Hahahaha...

Ah, yes. Good times. Thanks for the hilarious moments, Bushie! Now GETTHEFUCKOUT!

@Bosco: Isn't it hilarious how the price of gas is back to where it was when you started driving?

I had to clean out a bunch of stuff from my old room in my parents' house in Southern California the other weekend, and it was insanely trippy because I went through all of these items that carried a huge weight of nostalgia, only to drive downtown and see that gas hadn't been that cheap since I was actually -in- high school. Seriously, I turned the corner to see the gas station where I used to fill up with that price and had a flashback.

Gas is $1.67 down the street from me. And to think weeks ago I was all excited when it sunk to a little over 2 bucks a gallon and couldn't resist putting 20 bucks in. Now $20 nearly fills my tank. Yay for Toyota econo-boxes!

If I recall, it's been more than 10 years since gas was this low at least where I live. I remember it quite clearly. We did a short stint in Minnesota in late 1998. Gas there at the time was about a buck 29 give or take a few cents. It was so much cheaper than I was used to. When we hightailed it back to California in early January, we saw the gas prices rise slightly as we inched our way across the States. The biggest jump in price occurred as we crossed the Nevada/California state line. We were blown over at how expensive gas was at nearly .50 more than what we were paying in Minnesota.

Fill 'er up!

It's pretty silly, indeed, but I understand the insult. Apparently just showing someone your shoe in Iraq is a huge deal--it's a comparison of the person you're showing your shoe to with the dirt underneath your shoe.

Considering one's dignity, though, yes it does seem odd.

President Obama called it “inexcusable and irresponsible” for Republican senators to delay passing the stimulus bill.

C'mon! People are losing jobs and they end up living in their cars within a few months.

Progress is about moving forward, not backward!

I read something by this economist who is a trend forecaster as well, a couple months ago. Talking about the economic collapse of 2009.

It's just flat out depressing and it's scary as so many people live paycheck to paycheck and are a couple stubs short of losing their roof as it is. And today I read GM is cutting a few thousand more jobs. A friend of mine (unemployed) was looking in the paper and found a $9 receptionist job whose main requirements are to speak English, Mandarin and Hindi. For $9 an hour!!??

Obama didn't look too happy when I saw a recent conference with him. Jon Stewart had a funny but sad bit called The Death Of Hope in 3 parts on the Daily Show last night. Anyway, I agree what the senators are doing is totally inexcusable and irresponsible, but I guess since they aren't directly affected then the state of things don't mean jack to them.
