In all the years I've been on this board, I've never read about Portishead and thought that the group deserved its own topic.

So, I just recently bought Dummy and Portishead. I am in love with them!

And just when I'm wondering if they are ever going to do anything again, I find out that they have just started mixing a third studio album this month!

So lets hear it for Portishead and the ensuing excitement!

You're 10 years too late.

That rumor about mixing a new album also exists like... 5 years or so. Portishead is dead.

They are not dead, the are going to perform at All Tomorrow's Parties in december and they will perform new songs!

Definetly one of my fave groups. Watching Beth Gibbons chainsmoke while belting out their ethereal tunes on the Roseland NYC DVD is sexy genius at work.

Glory box is like one of my fave songs ever.

@Slipvin: Yo, check out their myspace. The just announced on the fourth that they'd be mixing next week... which was 2 weeks ago. Plus they did release 2 "doodles" on their myspace, which means that they are doing something.

Anyways, I am so excited!

Im not sure about a new album being a good thing. Portishead were proper... the soundtrack literally to my first love. I couldnt listen to that album for years afterwards. Bit of a lineup change, and i think less drug abuse, but i dont know how much i really want to hear Portishead in 2007. I mean new band, that would be great, but the legacy of Portishead... im fearing the sonic equivalent of Jar Jar Binks.

Great productions and Beth Gibbons has such a great voice. That's good news !

That is a good point about the possibility that the album could be shite (but I think it would be hard if Beth and the guy on the decks are back).

I kinda listen to their music and it absorbs any negative energy I might have, and strangely enough it makes me feel good.

Portishead did that requiem for anna song a year and a half ago, it's a cover, but it showed they still have it. The one live song they played in February sounded fantastic on YouTube even. So, I wouldn't worry, I think it'll be another classic. Just the album this decade needs.

Just get back from a concert of them (Cologne, Germany). Fantastic show. Little bit short (they played only 1 1/2 hours) and they don't play "all mine" but everything else was fucking great.

Oh! I forgot that this topic existed!

I really would love to see them live. I've heard some of their new songs from nocturnal wonderland and it sounds pretty amazing.

Approximately 23 days until the album is out. (However, it seems promos have already been released, as I have already seen [favorable] reviews.)

Can anyone suggest a proper starting album for a good listen to Portishead? I'm trying to push myself to listen to music I haven't heard before, and I've always dug the Portishead I've heard, just never gone as far as picking up one of her albums.

So, anyone have the album and/or see them at Coachella?

While trying to fall asleep tonight after studying for a final, I realised I have neither but perhaps you lucky friends on the forum have experienced either of the above. Share please!
