altough that Turkey is not in Africa .. but that's not what you meant right 8O

No, no, I know better than that. I was listening to It Began In Afrika when I made that post (should've clarified perhaps) and was thinking how the continent of Africa is the cradle of mankind but Turkey is known as a the cradle of civilzation.

http://www.alpinotour.8k.com/class.htm Just one of many sites making the Turkey + cradle of civilization claim (and I'm not talking turkey sandwiches! ;) ) My parents visited Turkey about 10 years ago, and that saying's kind of stuck ever since. It seems like such a fascinating place, so much history to make your head spin.

To be more fair, it's probably a bit more wise to include the entire Middle East with the cradle of civilization claim - so you'll get no argument from me! I mean, the entire area has so much rich ancient history... if only it were more safe for Americans to travel to that part of the world...

The Bible says things started in Iraq........ Why do you think "W" was so keen on invading? Wants to find Eden is my bet... Who cares about oil anyway when you can find paradise? *snort*

You're most definitely right about that! Unless I were to totally take Midnight Express as gospel, people I've come across who'e visited Turkey said it was an awesome place to visit and the people were nice and very accomodating. Although my mom kind of got attacked by a monkey at a street market... but that was a monkey, not a person! X-D

It's just other parts of the middle east that are probably equally as fascinating... might not be the best climate for an American at the moment. Maybe in a few years travel might be more accessible.

X-D yeah those monkeys... i tell you: i'm not a racist, but monkeys need to find them some decent work and stop harrassing people..

as an american (or any part of the world for that matter) I'd stay away from the east part (iraq border) however, istanbul and the south are perfectly safe..
