My favorite shot in the film is towards the end of Saturate when the camera slowly zooms out from the stage to reveal just how massive the whole entire spectacle really is. And just when you think the camera is going to cut to a different shot, it keeps zooming out even further and makes you forget to breathe.
That was my second best part of the film! I'm like 'my god, is the camera guy is gonna run out of space going backward? Where was he filming it at?
Just sat through that whole clip with the hugest (is that a word?) grin on my face. I cannot wait for tomorrow. Especially seeing my Dad's and my friends' reactions to it!

CROWD IN THE FILM @2:41!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yyyyyeeeeeesssss
Tom Rowlands said : "The most important feature of the album is that it connects with us emotionally in some way. We hope for finding a new way to make you feel. We dream of new sounds and different frames. We have worked with some guest singers but mostly the album is pure Chemical Brothers."
Absolutely gutted I have to miss this through work; though got plenty of mates who going to see it - can wait to hear them telling me how mega it was when I get back!!!!!!
Have an awesome time tonight, to all that are going! I can't wait to hear what you think!!
Making a last-minute decision to come.
Anyone here seeing it in York or Leeds tonight? If so, which cinema? My preference is for York Picturehouse but will hook up with others from the forum if I can.
Formerly known on here as "Tyler"
Taking your brain to another dimension!
My musings that have not been said yet. Much of what I will describe comes with detailing of past Chems and Fuji Rock experiences.
I had the glint going on for most of the day. Met with my friends Nate, who has journeyed with me to Fuji Rock, and Deeno at the theatre about a half hour before. I probably scared other patrons when I met my friends as I was jumping up and down saying 'Chemical Brothers!' in a high pitch voice similair to the girls in the Red Rocks TV concert. See @ 4:19
About 30 people showed up to see the film in a theatre that can fit approximately 150. We sit in the first row of the second section so that we are fully immersed visually without straining necks. Show starts thankfully without having to wade through ads or trailers. I start singing TNK under my breath as the opening credits rose. The first scene in Another World in the crowd with their hands in the air brought me right back to the last time I saw Tom and Ed at Fuji in 04. I started remembering the smell of the setting, rain, sweat, flesh, forest, smoke. It's hard to describe but there is a definite smell that I can associate with.
Nate freaked out wide eyed saying "Frick! That shits scary!" upon seeing the GYH clown transitioning to DIA. To me it was all the more hilarious as he is a horror movie buff.
My favorite part of the film came really early in Horsepower and I haven't seen anyone speak specifically on it yet. During the track it can be seen that it is raining. There is two instances where Horsepower mixes with the power of God, each about a minute apart. They happen on long shots where you can see the crowd and above the stage. As the strobes lights are going off you can see cracks of lightning go of above the stage. Those moments felt so intense to me. It reminded me of dancing in that same field to Underworld during a Thunderstorm. They are common at Fuji Rock. Luckily, right behind the Green Stage (the main stage) Is a mountain with many trees and ski lift structures to help attract the lightning. It is still the weirdest feeling to be losing it while God is throwing his power around. Scary and Euphoric at the same time. Great editing to get those shots in my opinion.
Looking back at the crowd around this point I don't see anyone getting out of their seats, but there is alot of movement going on and people were talking to each other about the film. There is one quick cut around Star Guitar when they show the crowd with one individual holding up a Scarf with the Chemical Brothers typography on it. I want that Scarf! Also, loved the overhead shots in the tunnel at this point similar to that of Another World.
Now I know the moment when Tom (I think its Tom?) presses the 'HBHG' key has been talked about, yes, another intense moment. One thing I haven't seen here is the possbility of another clue to the Secret Etchings. Right next to the 'HBHG' key is one marked Rasputin. Wasn't there a etching on the Vinyl for Further that has to do with 'Rasputin'? IF yes, did we ever figure it out? I'll check this weekend when I have access to my collection.
Don't Think was undoubtedly intense. I was already well familiar with it having watched the Arclight videos repeatedly the week before. The scenes around this point of the greater festival were a fantstic glimpse of what Fuji Rock is like at night. The Tengoku burger stand by the river, the World Village with its variety of food, drinking in Palace of Wonder while listening to the weirdest local music, the iconic Exhaust tree outside Crystal Palace where Joe Strummer famously set up camp for many years before passing, to walking down the boardwalk through the trees with Disco Balls strung throughout. All of these elements caught on film do express the hedonistic, creative, and spiritual side of the Japanese youth culture that is overshadowed by the reserved sterotype, that does arguably exist.
One part of the set itself that I love since the introduction of it is the mashup of Out of Control and Setting Sun. The drop in of the 'evil' Setting Sun synth half way through tuggs at your chest and then spits you out back into the bass that is Out of Control. Euphoric and Dark.
The Balloons during Saturate are more a Fuji Rock tradition for big acts over the past few years. Underworld released them during Born Slippy in 2008, but with ten times the amount featured in Don't Think. It is an intense feeling to be a part of that. Another wish I was there moment. See at 4:52.
Having the original video for Escape Velocity raised the build up. I found myslef being attracted more to EV girl seeing her on the big screen with all the lights flashing across her face. Then having Tom sing Golden Path brought another past chemical memory. I remember hearing Tom singing at that 'Disastourous' Oakland gig in 2005. That gig was fun, but as I have said before, the rest of the crowd was there only for New Order.
Superflash in High Definition sound and picture was freaking fantastic! Another top of the list tune for me. The Acid Children ending scared Deeno similair to Nate at the start of the movie. The vocal effect from going light vocoder to Dark and ominous really worked in the theatre. That was an eargasmic moment.
Knowing that the end was near I tried to enjoy LH and BRB for what they are. They are low on my list of loved chems song, but they aren't ones I hate. To have the final scenes of the crowd rocking out was memorable. Especially loved screaming man who looks like his jaw is going to fall off. The Love is All and Japanese flag at the end really did bring it together in the end. As said before, I want the Das Spegiel remix at the end.
We sat till the end of the credits watching the credits and people go by. Two younger girls who walked by turned to us and said "Intense, right?!". I replied "My favourite things ever, Chemical Brothers and Fuji Rock!" I came out of the theatre with the After-Glow. I had a smile on my face for the rest of the evening and well into the next morning. Nate commented after that he wasn't expecting to but he got really into it. He even commented that he wanted to take people back to Fuji Rock to share the amazing experience. Deeno also had similar comments of how epic it was.
One of the reasons I got Deeno to come along was because he is the Paramount pictures rep for Edmonton. He knows most of the managers at the theatre where it was screened. I begged him to talk to them to get one of the two posters that were around the theatre (I also told him to demand they turn it up after hearing everyone elses stories of quiet theatres). Long story short, I pick up the poster tomorrow from him
All in all, It was brilliant. The rehashed memories, the intense feeling, the potential for solving chemical secrets. This is the closest I will get to seeing Tom and Ed play in my home town (but if you want to see Deadmau5 you jut have to wait a few months and he keeps showing up).
Thank you Tom. Thank you Ed. Thank you Adam. Thank you Fuji Rock. Thank you to everyone here at the Forum.

What a great read and review, Ryno! Our forum's own resident FujiRocker. It must have been intense to relive your past Fuji experiences. You relating the movie to your actually being at the festival in past years adds some perspective to the overall Don't Think movie-going experience. That bit you mentioned about the lightning and the rain. When watching the film I noticed the rain glistening in the lights but didn't notice the lightning!! So many things I am sure I missed... Anyway. I'm happy you got to see the Chems so close to home. Finally!
I liked how you (and others here) mentioned the afterglow. When I saw this last Thursday, we went out for a bite then drove an hour north to a hotel for the night. On check in, everyone konked out but I was seriously afterglowing and wide awake until well past 2am! I even had some afterglow going on Wednesday night when I saw this again and didn't get to sleep until after midnight. Not ideal on a work night but what you gonna do!
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle
Big fan of the Chems having been to 15 concerts I reckon over the years - am now living in southern Spain. Please please bring Don't Think to the cinema in Puerto Banus. It'll pack out... big following here. Can I beg and plead?? Who gets to see this message?? xxx
