the only thing i would say is if your buying turntables, make sure u get direct drives and not belt drives - waste of time learning on belt drives, and its really hard to use them, youll just get annoyed and frustrated unless your extremely patient (or stoned like i was when i learnt ;))

mackie 1604 desk

nord lead 2

roland sh101

lexicon mpx 550

alesis 3630

emu 1810x soundcard

cubase sx 2

battety 2

I couldn't agree more. Trust me, from experience belt drives are absolutely useless. You'd only end up re-learning how to DJ when you eventually upgrade to direct-drives.

Also I strongly recommend buying the best gear you can afford... don't bother with those DJ-in-a-box sets, they are all poor quality and have zero re-sale value, total waste of money. You might as well buy the best you can afford or, if you have the patience, wait until you've saved enough cash for the best gear.

No doubt you will have heard this all before, but Technics SLs are the industry standard deck simply because they don't break. They don't have the best features - Stanton, Vestax and Numark are all good alternatives, but if you end up playing clubs, you will find yourself using SLs 90% of the time. Also, bear in mind that CD decks are very common nowadays. I personally do all my mixing with Pioneer CDJ800s. They are fantastic! Again, if you end up playing clubs, most of the time you will find they have Pioneer CDJs installed... they are kinda the CD equivalent of SLs!

More importantly, in my opinion, is the mixer. Weigh up the options: how many channels will you need, do you want built in effects, etc? I have a Pioneer DJM600 - very good quality and good on board fx. There are loads of alternatives out there anyway.

Finally, I would recommend you just spend a couple of months in the shops playing with various gear and see what you prefer. And remember, those DJ-in-a-box packages are total crap. Pretend you never even saw them! X-D

Righto, sorry about the rant! Just want to make sure people benefit from those more experienced amongst us, don't buy any pony gear! :)

Im conisdering buying either cdj 200s or 800s as 1000s are a bit pricey. Or maybe buying this

Hey, what's wrong with Behringer? It's great gear for the cash, you just have to bear in mind that you do get what you pay for. Behringer is crap compared to the top money brands, but compared to nothing it is excellent.

I'd rather have a studio full of Behringer gear than no studio at all

You should pick up a pair of used technics when your learning, although its not the cheapest option it gives you plenty of options. If you dont like dj ing you can re-sell them for the same price you got them, and if you like djing then you neevr have to update because you have the industry standard decks. Buy a cheap mixer though as theyre cheaper to upgrade and you dont need fancy features to learn.

Psh, in my opinion, Technics are very overpriced and have no features (only 8% pitch control, no pitch lock). I mean really, what are you paying all that money for? If you're gonna spend that money, numarks TTX-1s are where its at.

When you buy technics, youre paying for the superior quality of the turntable. The features on the ttx1 are rediculously unnecessary. Who needs an inaccurate bpm counter on their decks. The only plus side about the numarks are the s shaped and straight tone arms that can be swapped on them. +/- 8% is all you need to mix properly anyway, i mean if you ever have to increase the pitch of a song by 50% it's gonna sound like absolute shit. It's not just a coincidence that technics have been the industry standard for years, its because they are better decks overall than the competition that has appeared. The only deck that may possibly be better than the technics are the stanton st150's. But they dont retain their value, unlike the technics which you will be able to get rid of without losing too much money.

I have 12% and I find that limiting. I would really like 20% to play the range of stuff I want to properly. Key lock is also VERY nice.

Yeah, I have to say that this has me interested simply as an affordable piece of equipment for use at parties and such.

Not sure about it's suitability for serious DJing (I mean, you do get what you pay for....), but the ability to mix mp3s from the computer is very appealing. Would give me a reason to fix my girlfriend's laptop.

Anyone else's opinion on the Behringer BCD2000?

I spose alot depends on the soft wear aswell and what can be done with that, unsure if effects can be appilied and if you can loop. I spose really the onl think it probaly struggles with compared to tradditional turntables is scratching?
