the only thing i would say is if your buying turntables, make sure u get direct drives and not belt drives - waste of time learning on belt drives, and its really hard to use them, youll just get annoyed and frustrated unless your extremely patient (or stoned like i was when i learnt ;))
I couldn't agree more. Trust me, from experience belt drives are absolutely useless. You'd only end up re-learning how to DJ when you eventually upgrade to direct-drives.
Also I strongly recommend buying the best gear you can afford... don't bother with those DJ-in-a-box sets, they are all poor quality and have zero re-sale value, total waste of money. You might as well buy the best you can afford or, if you have the patience, wait until you've saved enough cash for the best gear.
No doubt you will have heard this all before, but Technics SLs are the industry standard deck simply because they don't break. They don't have the best features - Stanton, Vestax and Numark are all good alternatives, but if you end up playing clubs, you will find yourself using SLs 90% of the time. Also, bear in mind that CD decks are very common nowadays. I personally do all my mixing with Pioneer CDJ800s. They are fantastic! Again, if you end up playing clubs, most of the time you will find they have Pioneer CDJs installed... they are kinda the CD equivalent of SLs!
More importantly, in my opinion, is the mixer. Weigh up the options: how many channels will you need, do you want built in effects, etc? I have a Pioneer DJM600 - very good quality and good on board fx. There are loads of alternatives out there anyway.
Finally, I would recommend you just spend a couple of months in the shops playing with various gear and see what you prefer. And remember, those DJ-in-a-box packages are total crap. Pretend you never even saw them! X-D
Righto, sorry about the rant! Just want to make sure people benefit from those more experienced amongst us, don't buy any pony gear! :)

my advice, don't buy a vinyl deck!! it soooo expensive buying vinyl.
i reckon there will be some good deals around soon for cdj 1000 and 800 seeing as pioneer have just anounced the cdj 1000mk3 and 800mk2!!!
and much better for your back as well ;) although since ive bough nathaniel, my big gay leather attache record-box-on-wheels i dont suffer that problem so much anymore :P
at the last pausebutton gig we played 50% of the set off cd, def a worthile recommendation there sneaks.

I'd rather have a studio full of Behringer gear than no studio at all

Yeah, I have to say that this has me interested simply as an affordable piece of equipment for use at parties and such.
Not sure about it's suitability for serious DJing (I mean, you do get what you pay for....), but the ability to mix mp3s from the computer is very appealing. Would give me a reason to fix my girlfriend's laptop.
Anyone else's opinion on the Behringer BCD2000?

I spose alot depends on the soft wear aswell and what can be done with that, unsure if effects can be appilied and if you can loop. I spose really the onl think it probaly struggles with compared to tradditional turntables is scratching?
