Hi everyone!

I'm looking for some nice low cost youth hostels or accommodations in London. Can anyone recommend some at a good price-preformance ratio? Maybe from experience?

Any suggestions are very appreciated!!!

Can highly recommend the Astor Museum Inn near the British Library (I think Darkstar will agree ;) )

I never cared for youth hostels either but I suppose when you're young and on a budget it's a great option plus a way to meet some drinking buddies. My brother went to Europe with his friend years ago and they stayed in youth hostels the whole time and it was fun for them, they met some cool people. I only stayed in a youth hostel once, in Dublin. It was fuckin noisy, I could barely sleep a wink and I'm just a bit too modest to take showers with other people. Couldn't wait to get to a B&B so I could have a nice hot shower and a decent night's sleep in a comfortable bed with freshly washed linens.

I don't know if they still have them, but another option - a tad more money, however - would be a youth hotel. There was one I stayed in almost everytime I ventured into London (this was in 1991) and it was much better than a hostel. Though it was dumpy accomodations, and was eventually shut down because illegal aliens were living there - but it was on Queensbury court in S. Kensington, a decent part of town. The rooms had anywhere between 2-6 beds and was ideal if you were travelling with a friend or 3. Don't know if it's typical for youth hotels but the one I stayed in, most of the rooms had their own toilet which was a major plus.

There are a good range of low cost hotels as well - fairly basic, but a bit higher up the scale than a youth hostel. If you book in advance you can get decent rates - try IBIS, Travelodge, Premier Lodge.

You need to ring them for a quote, but i can tell you i paid 35£ for a private single room, but id say its about 20£ for the dorm or something and its right beside a tube station and like 5mins walk from Oxford street. Its VERY central.

yeah, I think I am more likely to get a room than crash in a hostel, which I think can be summed up in the general bs rants I made about being excited to moving into a place w/o roommates. But, if the price of hostels are the only thing I can afford, I'm up for it. It'd go so far as sleeping on a bench just so long as I get to see the Olympia gig.

Hahah, I'm right there next to you, Biff. Might on the next bench, even. ^^
