The Chems closed the first day of the T in the Park festival tonight (July 11), creating a rave at the NME/Radio 1 Stage. In front of a backdrop featuring psychedelic graphics, Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands frequently came out from behind their decks during the set to get the crowd going. 'Galvanize' and 'Music:Response' were early highlights of the set. The pace never relented as 'Surface To Air' and a particularly frenetic 'Believe', featuring recorded vocals from Kele Okereke, created a euphoric atmosphere. After briefly leaving the stage, the duo returned for a version of their 1997 UK Number One single 'Block Rockin' Beats' to cap off the set and close the first day of the bash.

The Chems release their first album Exit Planet Dust in the USA!
The trip-hop, breakbeat, siren-blasting, rave-dancing juggernaut gets the attention of the mass audience in 1995. As of this day, no dance album by can make a greater first impression by a group than this one. If you don't have a copy, then shame on you!



"The act with the first arena-sized sound in the electronica movement, the Chemical Brothers united such varying influences as Public Enemy, Cabaret Voltaire, and My Bloody Valentine to create a dance-rock-rap fusion which rivalled the best old-school DJs on their own terms — keeping a crowd of people on the floor by working through any number of groove-oriented styles featuring unmissable samples, from familiar guitar riffs to vocal tags to various sound effects. And when the duo (Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons) decided to supplement their DJ careers by turning their bedrooms into recording studios, they pioneered a style of music (later termed big beat) remarkable for its lack of energy loss from the dancefloor to the radio. Wow that album is almost as old as me! (i'm only 17) I'm ashamed to say I don't have a copy yet. Being a noob and seeing all of you guy's collection was sorta discouraging. But i've decided to give it a go. And the city where I live sucks! The only place to buy cd's etc was Best Buy, Walmart and Target but they don't even have an electronic music section! They opened a record store recently and I was able to get Further and Brotherhood. Just got a credit card about a month ago so that will make things easier

I have that 1999 Q magazine with Tom on the cover helping hold up Keith Richards. I'll see if I can scan it and put it up!
