Although they aren't really the 'founders of electronica', I think artists such as Leftfield have taken dance music in new directions. When Leftism was released back in 1995, everyone else was doing Italian style piano tunes--Leftfield did things that had never been done before.

I guess you can't cut it down to one single artist, but one could come up with a list of bands or people that pushed the whole electronica genre a few steps forward during a certain period of time.

Leftfield (as mc marsh explained)

The Chemical Brothers

Orbital

FSOL

The KLF (for their ambient stuff along with the Orb)

The Prodigy

Underworld

Those were some of the most influental bands during the 90's in my opinion. I am not sure about a 2000-2003 list, but it should include Kosheen for bringing D&B to MTV.

I agree with c-row. But i dunno bout KLF ???

I like when bands try different thigs, even if some of them sound crappy. It shows that artists are trying to do something different.

The KLF formed what later became known as ambient house along with The Orb (Alex Paterson) in late 80s/early 90s. Most of the chill out genre has its roots in their works.

But it defined a genre. Just like the Orb's Huge Evergrowing Mind and their album "ADVENTURES BEYOND THE ULTRAWORLD"

(note that Huge Evergrowing Mind was written by Alex Paterson and the KLF's Jimmy Cauty ;-) )

hum hum, men sometimes don't know if it's their brain or their testicles!

Each can produce the juice of creation!

I think there is no band as good as the Chemical Brother to make a Chemical Brother's album , but you can't compare them with another band...exept the Dust Brothers, because they did compare themselves to these american producers a few years ago.

It would be fun they collaborate... :D

Sometimes I think that Norman Cook is the third brother...

But who would be the sister?

If the place is to take, I can go to Brasil for a transexual surgery! ;-)

Can't believe Fat Boy Slim is so highly rated! Nothing progressive about any of his last few albums, first album is the only one that did something a bit different (at the time).

His remixes all sound the same, seems to have got stuck in a rut with these in the last few years.

Production wise he's crap, very basic and very limited, he just sounds dated!

End of rant!
