First of all, I'm not even sure if Tom and Ed read these forums, but if they do, then this is directed toward them.
I've been a Chemical fan since 1996. The music is great. The albums are great. But Chemical Brothers live music is even better than the albums, imho. Tom and Ed take the songs to a whole other level in live shows. I've only had the pleasure of seeing them once and it was insanely great! I've downloaded as many live Chemical Bros recordings as I could find over the years and I listen to them much more often than the Chemical Bros actual albums. I have a feeling that I'm not the only fan out here who enjoys their live music this much.
So what I'm wondering is, has Tom and Ed ever considered recording their live shows and releasing them online? Your sound board techs are more than able to record the show to a digital recorder (with or without the crowd noise). Heck even just setting up a portable digital recorder with a microphone facing the stage would be enough to make me want to download it.
If they did this and then turned around and released the recordings on these forums a few days after the show, you guys would get SO many fans downloading them! In fact you'd probably increase your fan base and perhaps get even more people coming to live shows because of it.
Perhaps you already have your sound board tech's recording the shows for your own personal reasons? I dunno. If so, releasing them online would be a piece of cake.
If you guys ever considered doing this I'm sure you'd way the pros and cons. Like is the audio quality up to par for you guys to release it? As long as it was decent you're fans would love you for it. Are you going to hurt ticket sales by releasing the live recordings? I don't see how this would be possible. A fan is going to come see you live. Live recordings are great and can help you get a sense of what its like to be a live show, but nothing compares to actually being there. If you guys released every single concert recording you did, I'd still come see you every time you came through town (which is not often enough!) cause its just that good.
If you guys would rather release a live album or live DVD in order to make a few extra bucks, that would be awesome as well as many fans would definitely buy them. The time and money it takes to produce a studio quality item like this would be a downside. If you just did basic live recordings and then released them online within a week of your show, you'd get great response to it considering how little work is involved to make it happen.
In summary, your fans LOVE your live music. And nowadays more than ever you have a direct line of communications with your fans. Anything you can do to make your live music more available to your fans will make them love you guys more and more. Attending Chemical Brother's live shows is a treat. But being able to relive those shows is icing on the cake.
Anyways, those are just my thoughts. Cheers!

I think your suggestion is for deaf man ears. The live dvd has been rejected and live albums isn't something the brothers are up for either. If a remember correctly Ed has already said that a Chemical Brothers live show is something you have to attend with the visual aspects and the bass and volume going through your body and ears. So don't hold your breath.
But a live recording of the gig at the gig would be awesome. Underworld does this at their gigs. You buy a coupon before the gig starts and ten minutes after the gig you get the cd with a pre-manufactured digipack (without tracklisting) with the live music of the show you've just seen. That makes it a very special collectors item and special music cd. Later these gigs become available for download at underworldlive.com.
Maybe we can get Tom and Ed to do the same thing. (But I don't think they will).
P.S. Talking about Underworld; if the Chemical Brothers would ever release a live dvd please let it be just as good as Underworlds Everything, Everything with the multiple viewing angle, one being the band on stage in front of the visual and the second being just the visuals.

I can understand why they wouldn't want to do an official release (Ed's pretty clear on this) but I've been watching the Radiohead Prague release this week - not sure how many are aware of it, but it was a fan project where many got together to record the gig on video from different angles, and afterwards create their own movie. Now, that would be good enough.
However, Radiohead went one step further and provided them with the audio masters of the gig, so what you have is a fantastic movie of the full gig with top notch audio to create their own "unofficial" release - http://radiohead-prague.nataly.fr/ (I think other bands have done this, but their names escape me for now.)
It would never replace the actual experience of being there, but in the absence of anything official this would probably be a pretty good compromise.
Jos - I've picked up a few of the Underworld live cd's, and would highly recommend them. And totally agree on Everything Everything!
