So the main stage headliners at Glastonbury this year are confirmed as JayZ, The Verve and Kings Of Leon. Apart from the Kings whose last album was brilliant, this is a weak weak line up. According to reports they wanted JayZ to make it appealing to "the kids". One saving grace is that Hot Chip are headling one of the nights on the second stage. Along with the Chems they were the highlight of last year.

Dont really follow The Verve, but I do recognise that have made some good tunes, I do like The Test aswell, however I wouldn't say they are Glasto headline standard. I saw Richard Ashcroft at IOW fest a few years ago, wasn't a great performance, he seemed hammered and was banging on about poltics for quite abit.

i usually just let idiotic posts float by, but this one was particularly irritating..
on what grounds are these 3 bands not headline worthy, last time i looked jay z was pretty big..
um if there's one thing the Eavis's have earnt the right to do it is to have whoever they want playing at their festival..
i'm sure it will be very good..

If you read the post you will see that I think that the Kings are worthy especially after seeing them at Leeds last year. Im not denying that Jay Z is a huge name but he is totally out of place at Glastonbury. Surely he would be better off at Reading peforming naff duets with Linkin Park. If Michael Eavis thinks that Jay Z is what "the kids" want then I think that he is really out of touch. From what ive heard on radio and seen on telly it looks like this hasnt gone down well with the KIDS! Anyway get tkts for V this year with proper headliners Muse.

When i went to see Tom and Ed play in Belgium @ Rockwerchter (remember that one, Ed ?! It was raining and thundering like crazy and you guys came up with kids yellow raincoats on ) Snoop Doggydog was playing before them.
Now i'm not a big fan of Snoop Dogg. Not at all. But i went to see him anyway....and it was one of the funnest shows i've ever went to. It was so much fun!
Just to prove the point that maybe Jay Z is not somebody you would expect to headline, as glasto is usually headlined by more rock or dance acts, but it can be a fantastic show.

well said jeanie! definitely going to one of their live shows will be well worth it, artists like Jay-Z have put on decent shows from what I've heard.
I recall a few years ago jay-z did a guest appearance with Phish. If you don't know who Phish is, they've essentially filled the void for the Grateful Dead. I heard the show he was at (Brooklyn) and it was pretty legendary. Just hearing Jay-Z sing "I got 99 problems, but a bitch ain't one" to an audience of bohemians, hippies, etc must've been interesting. here's a picture:

How can anyone possibly say the line up is shit and then quote 3 different acts as being the cause????????
The Verve are legendary and will be amazing, (anybody who thinks otherwise here was clearly only old enough to wear a nappy during the 90's) as to will the Kings of Leon. JayZ isn't my cup of tea but it'll be interesting to see what sort of headline show he puts on.
But on top of all that since when was Glastonbury all about the headliners anyway? Its about a zillion and one other things that all come together to make it what it is.
Anyway I'm hopefully going along being employed for the weekend as a roadie for my mates the Aliens.
See ya there.

It's all a matter of opinions people.
If you don't like any of those three headliners your prob not really gonna care about the rest of the line up. If nalaknip finds it a shit line up, fair enough! I havent seen the full line up so i can't tell. However, i always find something exciting.
Jay Z doesnt excite me at all, but i know that if i'm at the actual gig i will probably be the loudest one there! Hahaha

Its true its not just the headliners that make a festival but the full line up. The full line up is far from finished, but im sorry it is a big deal on who the headliners are and im sorry but this year Glastonbury has weak headliners. Of course it will sell out a couple of hours but only because its so cool to go to Glastonbury. For years T in the Park has pissed on Glastonbury for the quality of its line up and you never know may do again.

Its very very subjective to say that T in the Park has had better acts in the last few years. For me personally there hasn't been a truly jaw dropping T in the Park line up for a while and certainly in the last few years I've been the dance tent there has been very neglected and a pale comparison of what it used to be (then again of course thats the dance scene generally these days, or so it seems) The dance tent at T in the Park was always a mini festival unto itself but that atmospheres long gone as far as I can see.
T in the Park's line up certainly hasn't seemed as diverse in recent years as it used to be and no where near as diverse as Glastonbury
Obviously Glasto has become a victim of its own success over the last few years but all these festivals have and at least it shows there's a big appetite for live music out there.

"I would never go see a hip hopster on stage. For starters you can't mosh, and you can't sing along. Plus there's those black people too... "
err right on. That last part obviously ties in nicely with all those swastikas people were posting in that other thread. Nice.
You can't really mosh or sing along to the Chemical Brothers but presumably you enjoy them live?
