Now that's a broad question! It's hard to know where to start, maybe try listening to a whole record in its entirety and see what kind of emotional reponse you get from the whole thing, that's what worked for me when I was getting into them. As for favorite songs I think it's like a trip - it all depends on where you're at when going into it. ;)
But I see you wanted song suggestions so I'll go ahead and say this. Give The Private Psychadelic Reel a go. You'll be glad you did. :D

even though I only had one chance to discover the chems, I found it best to listen to their albums in chronological order. the first would be 'exit planet dust.' the good thing about that is you experience the progression of their sound over the years and appreciate it better, that's my opinion at least, rather than getting lost with tracks from various albums and times

I know i was a bit vague on specifying what i meant by "i liked star guitar and pioneer skies" let me clarify
Pioneer skies/Star guitar has a good mellow feel to them vs songs like Block rocking beats, or dig your own hole (which are superb no doubt.)
But im looking for more songs that have that awesome ambient/mellowed out sound to it vs. hard beat/funk stuff ( i like this stuff too but it was star guitar/pioneer skies that got me into the chems.)
:) I hope the helped

Try "Dream On","The Sunshine Underground", or "Got Glint?"
Or buy the Surrender album. They're all on it.

Zaied, now I have a better understanding of what you're looking for - it seems to me you want to hear the mellower side of the Chems.
I think you'd really enjoy If You Kling To Me, I'll Klong You (it's on the Singles 93-2003... but on the bonus disc) or you can just get the Life Is Sweet single, it's a b-side.
chemicalreaction recommends Chico's Groove and I agree with him on that. Also in the same vein is One Too Many Mornings - you'd dig it.
I still stand firm on the Private Psychadelic Reel experience. If a song has it all, it's definitely that one. It just sounds like a journey into outerspace.
The Test is also good, I love the epic way it starts out, the way it builds, and the way it gently drops you off at the end.
