Have got the entire album now and feel it is stronger than PTB.Only thing PTB has over WATN is Surface To Air.Salmon Dance a bit silly but I'll forgive that. The rest are all good tracks and fuck me if The Pills Wont Help You Now isnt one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.Anyway I've read a few reviews in various publications and all they confirmed to me is what I've always thought: good music is in the ear of the beholder.

Aaaaaaah, we've got a parrot head on the forums!! I was wondering about your name.

Sammy in... Margaritaville!

I feel We Are The Night is stronger than Push The Button. I love Push The Button, but I am so perfectly content with We Are The Night. There's songs on there that just connect with me more, is all. Agreed with you about The Pills Won't Help You Now.

What to say, I agree too. I think WATN is an album that re-takes the 'Chems-way'.. psycheledic!

Yeah Whirly,a very rare Irish Parrothead has landed in the forum!Liked Jimmy over 20 years now.Only discovered the Chems 4 years ago believe it or not.Variety really IS the spice of life.Had tickets for Buffett at Madison Square Garden September but had to cancel the trip as we're going to Turkey instead (long story).Have seen him once before though,in Tampa and have done the pilgrimage to Key West a couple of times now.Still I do have the Chems at Electric Picnic in September to look forward to.Oh,and did I mention I'm going to Amsterdam in FIVE DAYS TIME to see them there too/!Squawk squawk!!!

I dont know WHY people have to compare an album that's obviously so different to a PTB. Or anything. PTB fucking rocked. I hope this one has the same staying power once we have it on real quality - 8 more days - hell fuckin yeah! Countin every day!

Only listened to the album a couple of times, it's pretty good but I think I would find myself skipping tracks rather than just listening to the whole album. I think the Salmon Dance is pants, totally weird beats for the Chemical Brothers to make and Fatlip at his worst. I guess he needs the money, but he could have tried a little harder.

My favourite tracks are Do it Again, Das Spiegel and Burst Generator. Still early days though, I just hope I can grow to love the whole album.

I didn't get the point about "We Are The Night" could be called "We are the Life". Especially since the lyrics are "We Are the Night".

BUFFETT, that's way cool to have been following a band for over 20 years. I'm the same with U2 (though I don't follow them nearly as closely as I did about 10+ years ago. I have a soft spot for the parrot heads. I worked at a tower records that had a ticket outlet, and when Jimmy Buffett tickets went on sale, they would all converge on th store, waiting in line for their tickets. People of all walks of like, but mainly older folks catching the chance to buy tickets on their way to work - they'd come wait in with their suits/work clothes in line and they were frantically texting their bosses telling them they were gonna be a little late to the office. They were always great to chit chat with. Just by talking to them, the Jimmy Buffett concerts were always something they looked forward to, it was their time to let loose. My husband works with a big ol' parrot head, and whenever Jimmy Buffett is in town he rents a camper with all of his buddies and they load up in the parking lot (always a scene!) before the show. From the way they talked about the shows, it just seems lax and chill - a good way to buzz and enjoy hanging out. It's almost a culture in its own right sort of like the Dead Heads, but more... responsible, less hippy. Weekend marauders! We got invited to go a year or so ago with my husband's coworker, just chill in the camper then head on up to the venue. But we couldn't get a sitter... Would have been good times, maybe next time around.

Database - what dont you get about my ( i guess you read that in my post ) that We Are The Night could also be named " We Are The Life ?" I mean , offcourse We Are The Night sounds wicked and i wouldnt change the title if i could , its fucking brilliant.

It wasn't a name change suggestion - it has mnore to do with how i feel about this album. ( I am talking about the whoel album , not the song )

To me , Tom and Ed covered every aspect of life on this album. Every emotion. Its not only night - its also day , sunshine , joy , happyness , but i can also feel sadness and pain when i listen to certain songs.

I always felt that Tom and Ed really put their souls into those songs. I believe that what we hear is them. Its not just arrangements and melodies and beats , i think they get inspiration out of a lot of things in life , and on this album they really went deep.

Just my 2 cents!

Yeah fair enough... I thought it was a suggestion that the album would be better called "We Are the Life".

Maybe this album is more of a grower, but I didn't get the same impression from it as the first time I heard DYOH or Surrender. Still, glad some people are loving it already.

Regardless of all these opinions on the latest album, I'm sure everyone would agree they are riculously amazing live. I was lucky enough to see them at Rockness recently and I thought they were better than ever.

Music is an obsession with a lot of folks slippy. I've spent so much on acquiring music i love, and i don't mean only money. a lot of music IS soundtracks to phases of your life and stays with you. Some music is obsessions, the Chems definitely are for me.
