England gets The Chemical Brothers. We get Jack fucking Johnson.

what...the...fuck...

(And I do apologize to those forum members who have been reading my constant bitching about the lack of accessible electronica acts in the U.S. I promise I will try to sound less like scratched vinyl in the future)

Edit: And I bring up Jack Johnson because I just read that he's going to be headlining a festival here in San Francisco in late August in Golden Gate Park. Radiohead will be there too, which I guess is a consolation. I'll admit, definitively, they're good.

eww, jack johnson is doing the golden gate festival??? too fuckin trendy! it's so great to be in santa cruz and talk with people (mainly women) who I don't know the music taste of and just for the hell of it be like "you know who really sucks... jack fuckin johnson" and them to interject "i LOVE jack johnson"

I'd sell my foot for Jay-Z to do the golden gate festival

I would say there is one more legitimate chance for a Chemical Brothers appearance at a U.S. music festival. And it takes place in my back yard......LOLLAPALOOZA.

Ok, Ok, I know what your thinking.....But Lollapalooza DID have Daft Punk last year. Which was their biggest step towards diversity/Electronic Music. And it went over quite well (same could be said for their whole tour). But anyways, there is no conflict in the Chems schedule to this point. (Lollapalooza takes place 1-3rd of August). It's just something to think about.

yeah, probably because the organizers of Lollapalooza saw how well off Coachella is with variety and wanted to adapt that idea. hmm, wonder if that means Jack Johnson at Ozzfest someday? least that'd be the last of him for a while..

Lollapalooza was pre-Coachella and was an iconic festival that was reflective of youth and alternative culture - I'm talking early 90's here. And it was so unique, I mean at the time there was nothing else quite like it in that it was a touring festival not a once a year deal like most other fests (which were, of course, on the other side of the atlantic). Lollapalooza was the brain child of Perry Ferrel still who was still riding the wave of being the front man of Jane's Addition who were easily one of the most defining, varied, played and successful acts that practially personified the term "Alternative" at the time. Lolla was all about alternative music and a wide ranging spectrum of acts from industrial bands to hip hop had their place. It's funny Bosco, because the very first one was in my backyard!

I'd say in the mid to late 90's, Lollapalooza fell victim to being pegged as a corporate money machine and suits started taking over trying to have their hands in what they considered hip and edgy... and after a while the whole thing just bombed and Lolla slipped into oblivion.

Then Coachella came along, and proved that an "alternative" festival catering to all sorts and all walks of life does have its place. And in a way Coachella picked up where Lolla left off. (even though the first year of Coachella left me wondering if it would be back as I understand it took a loss in 1999, which could explain why there wasn't a 2000 Coachie). Perry Ferrel was at the first Coachella, too. As was Jane's Addiction when they reunited briefly to get a piece of the action (but I was in the tent enjoying a Chems dj set so I missed that show - teehee). Ferrel was at a Nocturnal Wonderland I went to a few years ago, too. He's a bit of a crack head psycho but I give him props for always having an open mind when it comes to music. And I'm glad that Lollapalooza is back in action and thriving. It might not have had the opportunity to come back if it weren't for Coachella being so successful. And hat's good. America is behind on the festival circuit unlike the UK for example, but hopefully if fests like Lolla and Coachella keep going strong then eventually we'll catch up somewhat.

haha ICP!!! Yeah!! They wrote the national anthem for meth-heads. The one on the left (forgot his name, but I knew it in 1996) looks like he's saying "You're all my cheeseburgers now!"

Perry Ferrel reminds me a lot of Quentin Tarantino in regards to them both being completely obnoxious, crack head psychos -like you well put Whirly, but at the same time producing some pretty amazing stuff. Not to mention both of them are kinda fugly.

I reckon that means a dj set a glasto, as V festival has some contract which prevenets artists from playing live at on uk festivals

Would have thought V's exclusivity contract wouldn't extended that far ahead of the festie to effect Glasto.

they're playing in the JJB Arena, which means that they might not have visuals. That's pretty interesting, maybe it will be more of a dj vibe.
