i have to be in the right mindset to listen to autechre and aphex, as well as most idm. there's no doubt it's on a different wavelength which i find interesting. sometimes i just like an easily digestible melody though.

i really like "incunubula" though. pretty straight forward songs there.

I'm not really familiar with auchtere aside from the one that's on the Chris Cunningham dvd and I almost always skip it. I worked with a kid who was briefly my art dept. assistant at Tower who was really into music like that, Auchtere and Aphex Twin being his most favorites. I've heard enough to know that this kind of music is not something that's my bag. In fact I find a lot of this music to be discordant to my ears. Its style too broken and somewhat directionless and because it doesn't ebb and flow like more melodious music structures, it's damn hard for me to listen to because it demands my utmost full attention (which I do not feel like giving it when there's other music out there that moves me much more). If that means my mind is lacking the brain capacity needed to comprehend this type of music, then I'm fine with me not being considered intellectual or whatever other degrading terms one can apply to someone else who doesn't share the same opinion.

I can appreciate what these artists like Auchtere are trying to accomplish and give em kudos for pioneering a style/sound/movement/genre what ever you want to call it - but it is not my cup of tea. Simple.

Maybe we should just make an IDM thread. :P

Right now I would love to buy Proem's new CD.

I love all he has done, and this last CD, well, I think it's going to be the best.

Give it a listen. http://www.m3rck.net...g/merck42-0.m3u

what do people think of Boards Of Canada ?

I really like them and was thinking about buying some Autechre and aphex twin. Heard a few of each of their music and thought it was alright but have never really given it a full go.

autechre is NOT like aphex twin, not at all.

autechre is way too boring to be aphex twin because all autechre feels way too intentional. it's saying the same thing over and over again "THIS IS DIFFERENT! THIS IS INTERESTING! C'MON MUSIC DOESN'T HAVE TO FLOW AND FOLLOW THE RULES!" you see, I hear Aphex Twin saying that the first time and then he does something that comes straight from within

Well, yeah, that's exactly my problem with autechre, they sound generally the same in all albums. Because of that, they get boring very very quickly.

No.

This is music for intellectual beings. People who don't 'get it', clearly don't have the brain power to comprehend this music. People like you, for instance.

generally people who reduce music to its intellectual properties have very little soul.

people like you for instance.

Boards of Canada aren't anything like Autechre - they use melodies. The similarity is the odd time signitures they use, and songs that are mostly textures. The random samples in BOC's stuff actually reminds me of DJ Shadow a bit. They're kind of like DJ Shadow meets Aphex Twin's ambient side.

i thought the new (ish) album the campfire headphase was wicked - a bit ore focussed than geogaddi, and there melodies are arrangements are alwasy really lovely.

I don't think stash is much a fan of Drukqs except for maybe the title hahaha, though he (as well as I) like the ambient works... not really sure what happened to our cd from years ago. The only Aphex Twin record we own now is the Windowlicker single.

Boards of Canada has nothing to do with Autechre nor Aphex Twin.

It's more "musical", more "ambient".

I love BoC but it's totally different.

What about -Ziq?

-Ziq and Aphex Twin worked together in Mike & Rich - Expert Knob Twiddlers

we should hate richard james. why you may ask yourself? here are a few reasons why we should hate that limey bastard.

- rich as high hell

- rich as high hell for being lazy and shitting out tracks

- can put his ugly ass face on anything and still make a buck

- have no idea if he actually tries to make good music

- hates your dog (who you think totally pwns)

IT CAN KEEP GOING AND GOING BECAUSE AFX IS AN ASSHOLE~!!!!

now ae you can rely on to make a full on album every 1-2 years. they havent missed a beat (HAHAHA THATS FUNNY! beat!) and can expect that album to atleast be 60 minutes every time. booth & brown are also nice guys who say they like your moms casaroll even though it tastes like shit. they stay up late to help you with your max/msp homework and always ask if you need you have enough blanket. they also wear mountain equip coop which is totally cool

Yeah, the music community has really gone downhill. Nowadays, all them cool kids don't care for the music, they just want the artists to handle services. I tell it, it's all about who's doing who's laundry these days!
