I know you didn't ask me what I think of Virgin Suicides but I'll chime in anyway, since Air's score is one of my favorite movie soundtracks of all time. I thought the film was good. Not great. But good. Sophia Coppola's style of directing can seem tedious at times but I thought the story itself was dark and intriguing, and the acting and direction and other aspects of the film I thought were good. The music was a perfect compliment to the film in that it was dark and dreamlike. In the end though, I thought the music transgressed the boundaries of the film. I certainly have listened to the soundtrack more times than the single viewing I had of The Virgin Suicides.
We'll see what Hanna has in store. I'll reserve judgment of the film until I see it for myself. I sure hope there's a theater close to me that will show it!
Whirly... is it weird that we were typing our posts at the same time? I love little cosmic shit like that. You're somewhere else in the world and we're having a conversation. (cubicle time drives me to think about stuff like that. I'd rather be in a mom administered time out. At least then, I could sneak some legos in my pocket)
So I couldn't have said it better myself. The soundtrack has been played many a time in my iPod, and I do think of the scenes from the film but I don't pop the DVD into my player.
The funny thing about this being an assassin movie, is that when I'm walking through the streets of Chicago after leaving work, I like to bump "Electrobank" or "Setting Sun" and picture that a big Bourne Identity scene breaks out and I'm running from a bunch of hired guns on my Vespa trying to get a top secret file into the correct hands. In other words, I bet the Chems are going to do action really fucking well. I think it's gonna be absolutely sick, regardless of how I'm still an 8 year old when I'm leaving work.
I would like to point out though, I would give me left pinky finger to get a studio extended version of the "Out of Control/Setting Sun" mix from the current tour. The things the Chems do with already produced material is unvelievable to me. That moment at the show here on labor day gave my whole body goosebumps. I just stood there shaking my head (and imagining my chase scene [holds up finger shape of gun and backs up against wall])
Cheers!
