profunk - i think he's got at least 3 different vocalists on palookaville - and he's brilliant - i agree champion sound was not close to the vocals on all the palookaville songs, but i still found the song nice.
Palookaville was fucking brilliant - GOLD! Lyrics too cool to be human!
What's happening with the Fatboy camp? Long time since we heard new stuff except those two singles.
mX - stop being a rita!

I like Fatboy. Fatboy's Palookaville, admittedly, had to grow on me. Given all the personal stuff that was made appallingly public that he went through, as Acidchildren once pointed out (I think it was him) it was a miracle he put out anything at all. There was this one interview I read with him around Palookaville that was really so sad, given all that crap he went through on the journey to make that album.
I like the vocals songs he's composed and he's brought a new approach to his music that I find resfreshing and avdventurous for Fatboy who has been accused of being repetitive and rehashing the same stuff. It's not everyone's taste, but I do enjoy it. Even if they take a while to grow on me.
I also like the song This Old Pair Of Jeans that was released with the Fatboy singles and teh vid on DVD - Jack, have you heard this yet?? I think you'd really, really dig it. And the video for that song is fuckin great!

Yeah, Palookaville was ace, so was the remix to I'm Free by the rollingstones. That, plus Wonderful Night, This Old Pair Of Jeans, and Champion Sound all feature the same vocalist I believe. Anyways, TOPJ and CS were kinda dull in my opinion. I did like the video, however :)
I'm fairly certain that when, if he does, release another album, it will be good. I hope its something inbetween Palookaville and his earlier work.

Holy sh*t! This is heaven sent after a long tedious hectic week at school…For some reason I can’t fast-forward on the radio one’s player…So I had to sit here through the longest 20 minutes…All I gotta say is DAS SPIEGEL alone has paid off for the excruciating wait for WATN…This was one oddest funkiest bubbliest uplifting blissful song that I could only expect from the Bros…All those noises going left and right on my headphone made me dizzy, in a very very good way…I swear I heard something like a baby’s giggle and a guy’s sigh…Sensational! This is an explosion of good stuff and it permanently stamped a huge grin on my face haha…Now I’m onto my second listen...Gotta wait another f’ing 20 minutes…Huge props to sneakerbeater!

whirly - i heard both the new singles long back on release - i even started a new thread with all kindsa info on the older forum on release, and tried to keep it goin - for some funny reason i think chems fans on this forum don't like the new fatboy anymore - i think he's just fuckin too brilliant. he was the extacy god once but his last album put him (almost) in the same league as the chems as far as the vocal songs (infact the whole album) and songwriting go. He was anyway an electronic wizard producer from the word go. I love every song (except for the Jingo Laa laa or baba too much, tho i like the remix), - I think he's got some of the most awesome vocals and lyrics on this album. Both the vocalists have such awesome attitute, it's impossible to even dream of ever hearing them do that kinda stuff on with a producer half as good. I don't know too much of the public hype about his breakup but all his songs scream it out, and in such a godly mature way - i love the guy even more today.
damn, i'm drunk and there are reasons to be really happy in the world tonight - fatboy's one of them!

Because I'm a nerd and I like psychedelic drugs, I am going to present this post in the form of erowid style trip report.....
A difficult realisation
by Afro88
Dose: 1 hit - Das Spiegel on BBC Radio listen again
Body Weight: 75kg
I am an avid Chemical Brothers fan, to the point of obsession. Lately they released a new single "Do It Again" which I have listened to again and again since it's release. Anticipation for this new album is at it's peak, especially after hearing descriptions of psychedelic, hard, electronic and melodic being thrown around. So when I read on this forum that a guy by the name of Colin Murray is providing one of the tracks from the album called "Das Spiegel" on the BBC radio website, I immediately without thinking surfed over and had a listen. This is an account of my experience...
Setting is alone at my girlfriends parents house where I am residing for the next few weeks. I am feeling content after a nice family lunch at my parents place for Mothers Day.
0:00 - Hit play on BBC radio player
0:01 - Skipped in 20mins. Heart is beating rather fast.
0:04 - I hear the first beats of the unmistakable new Chemical Brothers sound. A big grin starts to form on my face, and I can feel euphoria building in the periphery.
0:12 - The start of the track sounds really excellent, euphoria starting to become more obvious, but I'm getting rather annoyed at the git who won't stop talking.
0:16 - He stops talking. Euphoria starts to take hold as the beginning of the melody comes in. I am reminded of Orbital with the "bagpipe" sound, and the Big Jump with the gliding synth part.
0:25 - The chord progression is heard, and I suddenly get spine tingles and goosebumps. Feeling very happy, very excited and quite pleasant indeed. This is a good un.
0:35 - I simultaneously realise that a) this is probably going to be a very special track off the new album, possibly up there with Star Guitar or The Sunshine Underground, and b) that if this is any indicator the new album is going to most likely exceed any expectations I have.
0:38 - Happiness reaches an absolute peak, but a sudden feeling of "I shouldn't be doing this" grips me. I'm momentarily torn between my euphoria and "the fear". This is a track off the new album, something that I want to hear in it's entirety from beginning to end with no interruptions the day it's released. The realisation mere seconds ago has made me feel like that day will be a very special one indeed, and I don't want to taint it by sneakily hearing tracks in dodgy audio quality before that time. My fears of this new album being another "Push the Button" in the sense that it's a good album but still a little bit of a letdown are funnily enough quashed by my fear that listening to this track will taint the experience on June 18.
0:36 - I hit stop. The fear goes immediately away. Euphoria stays with me.
0:40 - I close the window after tempting myself with the thought of listening to it in full anyway.
[times are estimations]
I am left with many positive feelings. Mainly that this is shows me that the new album will most likely meet or exceed my expectations, that it will be yet another unique, forward thinking, massive album. Anticipation is at it's highest yet. I am glad I went through the experience, and I can only imagine how awesome the track would sound like in full, proper audio quality and in it's own space in the middle of the album.

Afro88 that was brilliant! I see what you mean about not wanting to spoil it since you want to hear the songs in context and in a certain way (not streaming audio, for one).
I do not think that hearing the tracks through means of radio show streams is being dodgy at all - afterall, in order to play it, someone (meaning the BBC and/or the DJ) would need permission to do so publically. But I can understand the hesitation, absolutely.
This song is beautiful and warm with euphoria. Hearing Das Spiegal as a stand alone track is merely offering a perspective out of context of the album. And at this point it is really up to the listener what to do - there's no wrong or right way to hear something, it's up to the individual. I can totally respect you wanting to wait hear it all in it's glory, in full context on the day of release. :)

I'm not comfortable with one song here and there either like I said earlir - the album has to be heard like any other Chems I've always heard - one go! Damn, I can't wait anymore!! Everytime there's a radio song I decide I'm not gonna hear the next one and wait for the album, but I doubt if there's another one tomorrow I'd be able to resist!
This album like all others till date will exceed all expectations, I've never doubted the Gods, they've never ever fucked up, and never will. I hope they live another 50 yrs at least making one album at least every two years. BRING IT ON!!
