sneakerbeater Escribi:

even if you record the track to an anolgue source and back to digital the watermark will still survive. clever stuff!!

I dont believe this. the only information that's transfered through analog is the waveform. I think they're just saying that as bullshit propaganda.

the pirate went to ARRRRby's

ha well I'm reading the watermake page right now, and it's doing the what the only thing I thought could work. That is, messing with the waveform. I'd like to hear this watermark played back, because people's definitions of "inaudible" varies from person to person. If the watermarking technology works, and doesnt have any impact on the musicm Then I think it's great. There needs to be some sort of stop to all of the piracy (or at least slow it down)

The article talks about how it's hard to filer it out yada yada all those methods it's resistant to. But that doesn't deal with a major part of the piracy battle. That is, say someone has sent the audio through a D.A.D. loop (digital to analog to digital). From what was said in the article, the waveform watermark would still be in the audio. But you have to have some way of detecting the watermark. Just because it's in the waveform data doesnt mean that it's going to prevent you from doing anything. In order for this prevention to work, you're going to need to have this waveform watermark in the waveform date (accomplished), have it be able to travel with the waveform data (accomplished), and have some way of detecting a waveform watermark so that a program or hardware can prevent the audio from playing. The last part is where the technology is lacking and basically making the whole process ussless unless there is some way of I.D.ing and preventing the music.

Hold on, CD quality is 44.1KHz, and audible sound only goes up to about 20KHz at best. So all they need to do is put in a tone higher than 20KHz, surely!!

But I guess that would be easy to remove - pirates would just use a high-pass filter. I stand by my previous view, that the music should just be released at radio quality until the official CD comes out.
